Itinerary
- Day 1
Hanoi to Ta Xua
Your motorbike adventure kicks off from Hanoi, heading out along dyke roads that run past the Red River and through farming areas toward Thanh Son where you'll stop for lunch. From there, the route winds through tea hills into Phu Yen before things get serious with a challenging vertical mountain trek (you can choose between 8-18 km depending on your fitness level). The scenery along this section is really something, and by evening you'll reach Ta Xua's distinctive dinosaur backbone peaks. You finish the day at a H'Mong homestay tucked into the remote mountains, giving you that genuine local experience.

Ta Xua to Mu Cang Chai
Riding starts at 8 o'clock from your homestay back toward Bac Yen town, then you'll follow National Road 37 as it hugs the Da River through Muong Chum to It Ong. The route shifts to Road 109 heading into Mu Cang Chai, taking you through vibrant rice fields and past traditional Thai villages with plenty of chances to pull over for photos. Depending on road conditions, you may hit some challenging offroad sections, but when you arrive at Mu Cang Chai, the spectacular rice terraces and Black Hmong villages make it worthwhile.

- Day 3
Mu Cang Chai to Sapa
After breakfast at 9 o'clock, you'll warm up on nearby backroads before tackling some challenging dirt tracks that wind through mountains and H'Mong villages, giving you a real look at how the local ethnic people live and work. Around midday, lunch happens in Than Uyen surrounded by tea farms and rice fields. Then comes the highlight: the O Quy Ho Pass, an epic roughly 50 km mountain pass that's considered one of the most impressive and challenging stretches in northern Vietnam. You'll arrive in Sapa, the cool mountain town where you'll spend the night.

- Day 4
Sapa
Sapa gets a full day of exploration. If weather's clear, the optional morning cable car trip to Fansipan mountain peak (known as the rooftop of Indochina) gives incredible views. In the afternoon, there's a 2 kilometer walk to Love Waterfall, or you can take a short ride to the villages of Lao Chai and Ta Van to see local brocade workshops and learn about hemp products. Dinner's on your own since Sapa has a good range of restaurant options, both Asian and Western, so you can pick what sounds good.

Sapa to Lam Thuong
Riding starts at 9 o'clock after your night in Sapa, heading down to Lao Chai and Ta Van where H'Mong, Dao and Day people live. If time allows, you'll visit a local handicraft workshop to see Hmong hemp products being made. From there it's Road 152 followed by a challenging offroad track through hilly rice fields, then you'll connect to National Road 70 for a light lunch stop in Pho Rang. The final stretch uses Road 160 along a river to reach your Tay family homestay in Lam Thuong, and you'll wrap up the evening with a relaxing swim at a nearby waterfall.

Lam Thuong to Nghia Lo
Leaving your Tay family homestay behind, you'll follow Road 152 as it cuts through vibrant limestone mountains and peaceful villages until hitting National Road 70. A backroad takes you to Mau A town for a light lunch, then it's a light dirt trail along a river to Nghia Lo (the route's long and winding but not too difficult, and the landscape is really nice). After checking into your hotel, change quickly and take a short ride out to a nearby hot spring for a relaxing soak, which feels great after your long offroad day.

Nghia Lo to Hanoi
This morning's more relaxed before heading back to Hanoi. Along the way, you'll stop at nice spots for some dirt track challenges that let you see the beauties of Muong Lo Valley with its tea plantations and villages. The goal is to return to your Hanoi hotel before rush hours so the 7-day motorbike tour through northern Vietnam wraps up safely.
