Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Skopje to Pristina to Prizren

Your tour leader picks you up from your hotel in Skopje early morning and drives you to Pristina, about an hour away. Once there, you'll walk around Kosovo's capital and see the 'Newborn' monument, which marks the country's independence declaration. The sculpture sits in a public square and has become one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. After that, you'll stroll along Sheshi Nena Tereza boulevard, the main pedestrian street lined with cafes and shops. Later, you'll head to Prizren, Kosovo's cultural center, where the pace feels different from Pristina. The medieval old town has narrow cobblestone streets worth wandering through on foot. You'll visit the Sinan Pasha Mosque with its Ottoman architecture, then browse filigree metalwork shops where artisans sell intricate silver and copper pieces. Before heading back, climb up to the fortress overlooking the town for views across the valley and surrounding mountains. The drive back to Skopje takes place in the evening, arriving after dark.

Our private trip with Magen guide and driver was wonderful. Magen is very knowledgeable and spoke English well and explained the history in detail. Answered all our questions whether it was silly or stupid. The only issue we had was the electrical car they provided. It was a chore to find charging places every day. Migen had to find and wait in the night till late. He did not get much sleep. It was difficult for him to drive in the morning without much rest. He had to stop many times to smoke and drink coffee to keep awake. When we tried talking to the company. They were not helpful and in fact rude. This was the only negative part of the trip. TourBalkans need to address this problem of providing electric cars. We did not about the car. On the whole it was a good trip. Padma and Shankar.

Semi-Private Balkans Tour, Dubrovnik to Athens in 14 days - We had a good trip overall with a good introduction to the region. Our driver/guide, Juli, was engaging, enthusiastic, informative, and an excellent travel companion with a good sense of humour. Our vehicle was comfortable, and, as Juli was an excellent driver, although there were some long drives, we all enjoyed the views from it. We had some really nice accomodations and we also had a couple of so-so arrangements. Hotel breaksfasts were usually satisfactory, and it was easy to buy our own lunches with street food. Gorgeous pastries in the region. Throughout the trip Choose Balkans kept in touch and were responsive and I felt comfortable sharing our feedback with them and hopefully they will choose to make some positive changes. Although we visited many many UNESCO World Heritage old city and castle sites, we feel the biggest oversight was the exclusion of the Srebenica Genocide Memorial in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH). We believe strongly that there should have been the option to visit the memorial as it is a incredibly recent reminder of a significant part of, not only BIH's history, but that of humanity, or rather inhumanity, in our world. BIH, and the entire region function today as they do, in part by growing out of the horrors that took place and trying to resettle another way. We tried to go and even though we drove right past it on the highway, we were unable to visit the memorial as "it's not in the itinerary". Another thing is that while we walked so many steps in old cities, fortresses, monasteries, we also wanted opportunities to enjoy swims in the many beautiful, natural lakes and rivers. Thank you.
