- Sanjana· April 7th, 2025The tour coordinator, Ganesh, was very prompt to respond to all our messages. Ganesh met us at our hotel to provide us with a large duffel bag and sleeping bags, and explain the outline of the trek to us. We chose to take a porter, and our porter Akas was a quiet young man. Our guide, Dinesh, was very friendly and polite. His wife also joined us for the trek. The tea houses we stayed in were better than we were expecting. They were very basic, but comfortable. Most of them have solar powered showers so you're unlikely to have hot water. The food is also basic and you will see the same offerings at every single tea house for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (dal bhat, momos, spaghetti, pizza). Our recommendation is to stick to the Nepalese food as the Western food was very hit and miss. And, of course, don't miss out on the chai! We found that we didn't need the sleeping bags as the rooms were warm enough, so this may be a way to cut down on weight in your duffel bag. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The trek itself was not what we were expecting at all—it was four days of climbing up and down rocky, crumbly stairs with extremely high risers and narrow treads. It was hard to enjoy the view when you had to carefully watch your step the entire time so you didn't slip and fall. Most of the route is through dry lands with very little to see. At the highest point of the trek, in Ghorepani, we were met with a lot of fog and could barely make out the outline of Annapurna. The sunrise view from Poon Hill was better, but still very sensitive to weather. If you're unlucky and have a lot of fog like we did, there's not much to see. Our guide was not very attentive, and offered no explanations for anything we were seeing or experiencing. Even when I was struggling with the stairs on account of my weak knees, Dinesh did not assist me once and instead left my partner to help me. Most of the time, Dinesh and his wife were walking far ahead of us, and we often felt like they were rushing us and/or annoyed at us for not being as fast as them. Neither Dinesh nor his wife spoke English well, and as a result we learnt nothing about the local cultures, flora, fauna etc. Overall, I thought the trek was a disappointment. Everyone we met was very nice, but at the end of the day, we paid for a guide to actually guide us, not just to be friendly. I certainly did not think the trek was "easy" as advertised, and I would not recommend this trek, especially not to anyone with mobility issues, anyone with low general fitness, and anyone expecting trails and scenery.Show moreTrip date: March 2025
