- Day 1
Porto to Miranda do Douro
You'll head from Porto airport to Miranda do Douro, traveling east through some really nice landscapes. The drive takes you along the Douro River Canyon, where cliffs tower over 200 meters high on both sides. Once you arrive in this small town, there's time to walk around and get familiar with the whitewashed houses and narrow cobbled streets that make it so charming.

Miranda do Douro to Sendim
Your cycling starts in Spain on relatively flat terrain, moving along the coastline with mountain foothills nearby. You'll cycle through the day and then cross into Portugal, either by ferry across the Minho River to Caminha or by using the Vila Nova de Cerveira bridge. Caminha has some impressive old houses and interesting pre-Roman history worth checking out before the stage finishes.

Sendim to Torre de Moncorvo
This stage follows an old railway route through forests and farmland, so you're cycling past olive and almond groves with shepherds sometimes along the paths. By afternoon you'll reach Torre de Moncorvo, known for its almond blossoms and medieval history. Your host will greet you at a nice town house where they sometimes share homemade liqueurs paired with local almonds.

Torre de Moncorvo to Vila Flor
Today brings your first views of the Douro River as you cycle alongside it. You'll descend through olive groves producing some of the region's best olive oil, and you're staying at a quinta that makes traditional organic oil. Dinner here includes local cheeses, sausages, fresh bread, homegrown oranges, olive oil and wine. Later in the evening, there's a walk outside for stargazing under clear skies.

Vila Flor to Sabrosa
You're cycling through the Alto Douro wine region today, where Port wine and prized red wines from Touriga grapes come from. The UNESCO World Heritage terraced vineyards and wine estates are all around you. After cycling, your bikes get loaded onto a traditional Rabelo boat for a scenic ride to Pinhão, passing famous Port wine estates along the water. You'll see the beautifully tiled train station before heading to your 17th-century hillside accommodation.

Sabrosa to Peso da Régua
Your final cycling day follows quieter back roads and gentle paths through the Douro valley with river views throughout. You arrive in Peso da Régua, which is the heart of the Port wine growing region. The owner of a local quinta might welcome you with fine wine on their terrace and could invite you to help prepare dinner together.

- Day 7
Peso da Régua to Porto
A transfer takes you to central Porto where you'll pick up your bikes and ride down to the riverside Ribeira quarter. This UNESCO World Heritage area has over 150 protected monuments, and you'll cycle leisurely past the famous Eiffel bridge and check out the Port Wine lodges across the water. That evening you'll have dinner at one of Porto's well-known fine restaurants.
