Roxanna· November 22nd, 2023I am a 9-time G past traveler. My first trip was over 20 years ago. Safe to say, all of the trips I've had usually come with some hicciups, but the local tour guides and experiences have far made up for it. When you use an adventure /discounted travel company, you have to be able to be flexible. I was a happy long time customer, until yesterday. I WOULD CAUTION OTHERS TO RECONSIDER USING G--IT SEEMS THEIR CURRENT CEO/MANAGMENT HAS CHANGED AND NO LONGER CUSTOMER FRIENDLY. My tour to Vietnam starts 11/24. I happened to speak with a friend who is Vietnamese Monday who was shocked I was still going. She then showed me the news coverage and video from people she knows in Vietnam regaridng the ongoing flash flooding (ended 11/16). Hoi An and Hue were deeply affected- and thousands of homes flooded. While the rain is not due to stop, the amount has lessened and a lot of the flood water receded. BUT, that does not mean everything is cleaend up or back to normal (I know this because my friend showed me tik tok videos from her friends in Vietnam with the water still a foot deep). G reps immediately told me I would not get any refund as if I didn't go I was doing that voluntarily. I told them I understand the weather is not their fault, but this can be dangerous. If I have to make that choice I'd need more info on the alternative accommodations and activities that were being offered. They would not give me any informaiton and kept saying to wait until I got there! One agent did say a group got put on a train and "evacuated" (word she used) and had to be flown to a town not on the itinerary. If I am going to spend a week there I'd like to at least have an IDEA of where and what (or extra cost) might be needed. The agents refused to give info other than you might stay in Hanoi an extra day. I called the local G tour office in Vietnam but no one answered. The agent told me that I needed to remember "they are human beings too" and might be tired since it was 6am when I called (kind of glossing over G advertises it as a 24 hour hotline for help). She then said the 24 hour hotline is a person that has a cell phone to take calls and to try to call them during "work hours". Again, its a 24 hour line advertised? In the end, the two agents I talked to were incredibly condescending and rude. AGAIN--I have NEVER had that experience with any of the local tour guides or locations in the coutnries I've visited. I think there may have been a change in CEO/managment or the way the agents in Canada are told to deal with customers after COVID, In the 20 years I 've had tours I've nebver been talked to so rudely. SO..YES, my decision to "voluntarily" (cough cough) cancel my trip for the fear of drastic changes in the itinerary, extra fees, inabiltihy to see most of the planned activities, and ongoing clean up from the floods. This is the rainy season, so that I was prepared for, but not dealing with flash flooding, the worse in over a decade per news reports. Ultimately, my own personal safety is most imporant.The rudeness of the G agents on the phone and inability to even offer a small refund or discount on the next trip, lost them a life long customer.Show moreTrip date: November 2023
