Itinerary
- Day 1
Reykjavik
You'll arrive in Reykjavik and have the day to explore Iceland's capital at your own pace. Walk along Laugavegur to check out boutiques and outdoor shops, or visit Hallgrímskirkja church and the Reykjavik Art Museum if those interest you. Later you'll head to Reykjavik Harbor to board MS Fridtjof Nansen, collect your expedition jacket, get settled in your cabin, and meet the Expedition Team before sailing.

At Sea
The ship sails across the Denmark Strait toward Greenland, following the historic route Erik the Red once took. You can explore the hybrid electric-powered ship's facilities throughout the day. The Expedition Team covers protocols for visiting wildlife areas and indigenous communities. Stop by the Science Center to learn about Greenland's geology, join citizen science projects, or relax in the hot tubs, gym, or sauna. Three restaurants onboard serve meals.

Landmarks Denmark Strait - Day 4
Prince Christian Sound, Greenland
You'll explore Prince Christian Sound, a 60-mile stretch with sharp granite peaks and bright white glaciers. Watch for calving icebergs and spot the colorful houses in Aappilattoq village as you pass. Keep your eyes open for ringed and bearded seals on ice, plus glaucous gulls and black guillemots overhead. You might see minke and humpback whales too. If sea ice blocks entry, the ship heads to Cape Farewell instead, Greenland's southernmost point.

Ivittuut, Greenland
You'll explore Ivittuut, a former mining outpost and ghost town now abandoned. Walk through the ruins and deserted buildings while learning how the US stationed troops here during World War II to protect rare cryolite used for aircraft aluminum. The site was once Greenland's last Viking settlement. Today musk oxen are likely the only inhabitants you'll encounter in this historically significant spot.

Landmarks Ivittuut - Day 6
Nuuk, Greenland
The ship arrives in Nuuk, Greenland's colorful capital with about 18,000 people. You can visit Hans Egede House and Nuuk Cathedral, then check out the modern parliament building. The National Museum shows life from 500 years ago and displays the six Qilakitsoq mummies. If you prefer something different, join a long nature walk through Paradise Valley and around Mt. Lille Malene.

At Sea to Davis Strait, Canada
You're heading to Canada now, crossing the Labrador Sea into Davis Strait, named after English explorer John Davis from the 1500s. The Expedition Team gives lectures on Northern Labrador wildlife, Inuit culture, and Arctic exploration history. The strait has lots of seals, whales, and cod. You can join citizen science projects to photograph and track whales, or help with the GLOBE Program by observing clouds for climate research.

Landmarks Labrador Sea Davis Strait - Days 9 - 21
Northwest Passage, Arctic Canada
Your ship navigates an unscheduled route through Canada's Arctic archipelago via the Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Possible stops include Pond Inlet, Dundas Harbor, Fort Ross, Gjoa Haven, Cambridge Bay, and Smoking Hills. You'll visit sites linked to early explorers, see Inuit communities, and look for polar bears, whales, narwhals, seals, and seabirds. Small boat cruises between ice floes and shore visits let you experience the pristine wilderness.

At Sea to Nome
After crossing the Northwest Passage, you're sailing toward Nome across Arctic waters. The Expedition Team gives more lectures on wildlife, tectonic activity, glaciology, and local history. Watch for bowhead and gray whales as you cross the Beaufort Sea toward Point Barrow, the northernmost US point. You'll cross the international date line, then sail through Bering Strait where over 30 seabird species live, including kittiwakes, auklets, and murrelets.

Landmarks Beaufort Sea Point Barrow Bering Strait - Day 26
Nome, Alaska
You arrive in Nome, a town with fascinating Gold Rush history starting in 1898. Prospectors still hunt for gold today, and you can see abandoned dredges, old steam engines, and railroad tracks from that era. Famous sheriff Wyatt Earp opened a saloon here. Nome was also the endpoint of three Roald Amundsen expeditions, making it a fitting finish before you fly to Vancouver.

Vancouver, British Columbia
Your Northwest Passage expedition ends in Vancouver, located at the foot of the Rockies. Explore neighborhoods with international restaurants. Don't miss Gastown, the old Victorian district, where Vancouver Lookout offers panoramic views over the city. You'll spend the night here before heading home.
