  2. Day 2

    Brixen to Brenner to Sterzing to Brixen

    Take the morning train to Brenner Pass, then cycle along the Eisack river valley through Gossensass to reach the historic Fugger town of Sterzing. From there you'll ride downhill past Reifenstein Castle and Franzensfeste fortress before heading back to Brixen by evening.

    Brixen to Bozen

    Cycle along the converted railway path from Brixen to Bozen, mostly on downhill terrain. You'll pass through the medieval town of Klausen with its Säben monastery, then descend through wine-growing regions. Once you reach Bozen, check out the Laubengasse shopping street and the Ötzi Museum.

    Bozen

    Start by cycling past Sigmundskron Castle (home to the Messner Mountain Museum) toward Eppan, then continue to Lake Kaltern while taking in valley views. The route runs through vineyards and apple orchards. You'll loop back to Bozen through the Montiggler Lakes nature reserve, which has good swimming if you want a break.

    Take the Vinschgaubahn railway toward Reschenpass, then cycle from Mals to the well-preserved medieval walled town of Glurns. Ride through the Montani ruins and Schlanders on your way back to Merano. Throughout the route you'll see impressive castles, palaces, and views of the Ortler massif and Stilfserjoch peaks (the route can be shortened if needed).
