- Day 1
Krimml
You'll arrive at Krimml and start by walking up to see Europe's largest waterfalls, which drop about 380 meters in three stages. This hike sets the tone for what's ahead - a cycling journey through the Austrian Alps that'll take you through some really beautiful terrain. The waterfalls are the perfect introduction to the region, and from there you'll head back to get ready for the cycling portion of your trip.

Krimml to Mittersill
Today you cycle down from Krimml Waterfalls along the Salzach valley, and the views of snow-covered mountains from the bike path are hard to beat. You'll pass through green meadows as you make your way to Mittersill, which sits in the heart of the national park. Once there, the National Park Worlds Museum is worth checking out if you have time - it covers the region's natural history and wildlife.

Mittersill to Kaprun
You'll cycle from Oberpinzgau towards Mittelpinzgau through an area that's really rich with lush plants and animals. By afternoon you'll reach Kaprun, where the high mountain reservoirs offer something different - you can visit them for a unique perspective on how the region manages its water resources.

Kaprun to Zell am See
Cycling to Zell am See brings you to a lake where Kitzsteinhorn glacier reflects in the crystal-clear water, and you'll have the chance to swim if you want to. Austria's highest mountain, Grossglockner, is nearby and accessible by public transport if you're interested in seeing it. There's also an optional cable car up to Schmitthöhe that gives you panoramic views over the valley below.

Zell am See to Lofer
After a refreshing swim in Lake Zell, you'll cycle through the castle village of Maishofen and Maria Alm, where a famous pilgrimage church sits prominently. You'll grab lunch in Saalfelden and then continue past Seisenbergklamm and Lamprechtshöhle near Weissbach on your way to Lofer. The landscape along this stretch changes as you move through different valleys and villages.

Lofer to Salzburg
The Saalach Valley cycle route takes you to Bad Reichenhall, a town with real Bavarian character and charm. From there you'll continue on toward Salzburg, the Mozart city, where the old town has narrow streets and baroque architecture. You can explore Mozart's birthplace and walk around the historic center before settling in for the evening.

- Day 7
Salzburg to Burghausen
You'll cycle to Oberndorf first to see the Silent Night Chapel and check out the extensive floodplain forests in the area. After that, you'll head to Tittmoning and pick up the Unterer Inn Nature Adventure Trail. Following it brings you to Burghausen, which has a magnificent old town and what's considered Central Europe's largest castle complex - the castle really dominates the landscape here.

Burghausen to Obernberg or Bad Füssing
Cycling along the Inn path is fairly comfortable today as you head toward the Gothic town of Braunau. You'll notice bird colonies nesting near the riverbank as you go. The route continues along the German-Austrian border to Obernberg, where you can see a distinctive market square and baroque buildings, though Bad Füssing is another option if you'd prefer to stay in a spa town.

Obernberg to Passau
You'll keep cycling along the Inn, passing by the famous Reichersberg Abbey at some point along the route. Before you reach Passau, you'll stop at the baroque market square in Schärding to grab a break. Passau itself is a fitting endpoint, and taking a river cruise from there would be a nice way to wrap up your cycling journey and see the region from a different perspective.

Passau
