Lima to Juliaca
You'll catch an early flight from Lima to Juliaca this morning. From there, the drive takes you across the altiplano, crossing over a 15,000 ft/4,572 m pass before descending through jungle terrain. By evening you'll reach your lodge positioned right at the edge of the Amazon basin.

Bahuaja Sonene National Park
Today you enter Bahuaja Sonene National Park and start floating down the river. Watch for wildlife along the banks as you navigate class II and III rapids, which get progressively harder. You'll camp on sandy beaches at night, and keep an eye out for anteaters, giant otters, various birds, and monkeys in the canopy.

Landmarks/POIs Bahuaja Sonene National Park - Days 5 - 7
Tambopata Research Center
You're running more challenging class III and IV rapids today while scanning for monkeys, capybaras, tapirs, and giant river otters. The day includes a stop at a macaw lick where you'll set up camp by the river. By Day 7, the rapids calm down as you get closer to Tambopata Research Center, giving you time to explore the surrounding jungle on foot.

Tambopata to Puerto Maldonado
Before dawn breaks, head out to watch macaws with brilliant plumage gather at the clay riverbank to feed. Later, take a motor canoe to Puerto Maldonado, a frontier town, and settle into a hotel for the night.

Puerto Maldonado to Lima
You'll fly from Puerto Maldonado back to Lima. After landing, you have options for the rest of the day. Check out the city if you have time, or go straight to the airport to catch your international connecting flight.
