Itinerary
- Day 1
Puerto Maldonado to Tambopata National Reserve
You'll get picked up at Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal and head to the lodge office to reorganize your gear. From there, a motorboat takes you down the Madre de Dios river into Tambopata National Reserve. After a 3km walk through the jungle, you'll paddle a canoe through Lake Sandoval's flooded palm forests. Once you check in at the lodge, there's an introductory walk to get oriented, and if you're interested, you can search for caimans by canoe after dark.

Lake Sandoval to Philadelphia Lodge
Before sunrise, you're out on Lake Sandoval by canoe looking for giant otters, macaws, monkeys, and birds. Back at the lodge, you'll have breakfast, then transfer to Puerto Maldonado via the interoceanic highway and jungle road, reaching Philadelphia port by motorboat to your next lodge. After settling in, head up the Canopy Observation Tower for forest views from above, then join a guided jungle walk once night falls.

Macaw Clay Lick and Quiroz Lake
Early morning means a 2 hour motorboat ride upriver to the Macaw clay lick, one of the largest in the world. Hundreds of scarlet, green, red, and blue-yellow macaws, parrots, and parakeets show up to eat nutrient-rich clay at the cliffs, and you'll watch them while having breakfast. Back at the lodge after resting, you'll hike roughly 45 minutes through rainforest to Quiroz Lake, searching for wildlife near massive ceiba and shihuahuaco trees, with an optional night activity if you choose.

Return to Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, you'll transfer back to Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal for your departure.
