Itinerary
- Day 1
Cusco to Wayllabamba
You'll start before dawn from Cusco and drive to Ollantaytambo for a quiet breakfast. From there it's a transfer to Piscacucho (Km 82) where your support crew is waiting. The day involves checking out the historical Inca control site at Llactapata, then hiking to your first camp at Wayllabamba. You're looking at about 12 km over 5 hours of moderate walking, with the camp sitting at 3,000 masl, so nothing too steep to start.

- Day 2
Wayllabamba to Pacaymayo
Get up early and have coca tea with a filling breakfast because today's the toughest part. You'll face a serious climb to Warmiwaynusca pass at 4,200 masl, which is the highest point on the whole trek, and the views of the valley from up there are really nice. After that you descend to Pacaymayo camp at 3,500 masl where lunch is ready. The afternoon gives you time with your guide to learn about the local plants and animals around you. The full day covers 12 km over about 8 hours.

Pacaymayo to Wiñaywayna
After breakfast you'll climb for roughly 2 hours to reach the archaeological site of Runkurakay at 3,800 masl, then push on to the pass and check out Sayacmarca. As you walk further, the scenery shifts and the jungle gets thicker, which changes what you see around you. By afternoon you reach Phuyupatamarca with views out over the Urubamba Valley, your first real glimpse toward Machu Picchu. Then it's a descent to Wiñaywayna at 2,650 masl where your team has hot mate and dinner ready.

Wiñaywayna to Cusco
Start with breakfast and take time to say goodbye to your support crew, then head out with just your guide for about 2 hours to Intipunku (Sungate) at 2,745 masl. From there you get your first proper view of Machu Picchu spread out below. You'll spend time walking through the citadel and seeing the main sites. Later a tourist bus takes you down to Aguas Calientes where you have free time for lunch, then a train ride to Ollantaytambo, and finally the road back to Cusco.
