Itinerary
- Day 1
Cairo
Your private guide meets you this morning to start exploring Cairo's religious heritage. First stop is the Citadel of Salah al Din, where you'll walk through the fortress and see the Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali with its distinctive white stone and Ottoman architecture. After spending time there, you'll head down to the Ibn Tolon Mosque, one of Cairo's oldest and largest mosques with a peaceful courtyard. Next you pop into the nearby Gair Anderson Museum, a restored 17th-century mansion filled with Islamic art and antiques. Later in the day, you transfer to Old Cairo where the Hanging Church sits perched above a Roman fortress, its interior decorated with beautiful icons and woodwork. Right there you can also visit the Church of San Sergius, built partially inside a cave over an ancient well. Before heading back to your hotel, you'll spend time at the Coptic Museum to see religious manuscripts, textiles, and early Christian artifacts. It's a full day covering centuries of Cairo's spiritual history.
