- Day 1
Salta
Land at Salta airport and head to your hotel to settle in. The rest of your day is yours to do as you please. If you're up for it, there's plenty to see around the city. The Cathedral is worth a look, and the MAAM museum has famous Inca mummies that give you real insight into the region's history. If you want sweeping views over the city, take the cable car up San Bernardo Hill. Or just relax and get oriented to where you'll be staying.

Salta to Cafayate
After breakfast, you'll drive south from Salta through the Lerma Valley into the Quebrada de las Conchas, where the rock formations are something to see. The landscape gets more dramatic as you move toward Cafayate in the Calchaquí Valleys. Once there, stop at a local winery to learn how they make wine in this region and taste some Torrontés. You'll have the afternoon free to grab lunch, walk around town, and check into your accommodation.

- Day 3
Cafayate to Salta
After breakfast, the morning is yours in Cafayate. Walk through the craft markets, check out the quaint streets, or just take it easy. In the early afternoon, you'll head back north through the Quebrada de las Conchas again, but this time the afternoon light hits those colorful rock formations differently. You'll pass through the fertile Lerma Valley before arriving back in Salta by evening.

Salta to Purmamarca
Start early after breakfast and travel through the northwest Argentina landscapes following the Train to the Clouds route through Quebrada del Toro. The road climbs higher into the Andes until you reach San Antonio de los Cobres at 4,080 meters/13,386 feet where you'll have lunch with traditional regional food. Then it's on to Route 40 toward the Salinas Grandes salt flats at the Salta-Jujuy border. You'll descend via Cuesta de Lipán with mountain views and possibly see condors. You'll end your day in Purmamarca at the foot of the Hill of Seven Colors.

- Day 5
Purmamarca
You've got the full day to yourself in Purmamarca. In the morning, consider walking the Paseo de los Colorados trail that goes behind the Hill of Seven Colors for views of the surrounding area. Or head to nearby Tilcara (about 20 minutes away) to explore the Pucará de Tilcara, an ancient fortress, then wander through the town center where there are handicraft markets, cafés, and small museums. It's really your choice how to spend it.

- Day 6
Purmamarca to Humahuaca
After breakfast, you'll check out and continue through the Quebrada de Humahuaca. The main stop today is the Serranía del Hornocal, also called the 14-colored mountain, where the panoramic views show you vast multicolored hills across the horizon. It's a geological wonder that really gives you a sense of what makes this region so unique. Later you'll head back to Humahuaca town and settle into your accommodation for the night.

- Day 7
Iruya Valley
This is a full day trip deep into the remote Iruya Valley where things move at a different pace. You'll travel through high desert shifting into lush mountain jungle, crossing passes that reach around 4,000 meters/13,123 feet. Along the way you'll see the High Valleys where ancient communities still farm terraced fields using methods that go back millennia. Then you'll arrive in the mountain town of Iruya with its cobbled streets and colonial-style houses. The whole round trip is about 240 kilometers, departing around 9 a.m. and returning to Humahuaca by 6 p.m.

Salta
Spend your day exploring Salta itself. Walk through the colonial streets, check out the Cathedral and the museums scattered through town. If you want a day trip instead, head to Cachi in the heart of the Calchaquí Valleys. The drive takes you over Cuesta del Obispo and through Parque Nacional Los Cardones with incredible views. In Cachi you'll find cobblestone streets, adobe houses, and a calm atmosphere that captures the character of northwest Argentina.
