Peschiera del Garda
You arrive in Peschiera del Garda with the afternoon opening up for you. Walk along Lake Garda's shores or head into town to check out the fortress surrounded by the Mincio river. The 16th century pentagonal walls and ramparts give the place real character, and there's no rush since you can explore it all at your own pace.

- Day 2
Peschiera del Garda to Brescia
Today you're cycling to Brescia with two route options to choose from. The longer, quieter path follows the Mincio cycle path and passes San Martino della Battaglia, where you'll see its distinctive tower from Italy's independence wars. If you want something shorter, the route hugs closer to the lake through Desenzano and Sirmione, which sits as one of Lake Garda's most beautiful spots. Either way, you'll roll into Brescia at the end, a city packed with Roman and medieval ruins and crowned by an ancient castle looking over the whole area.

- Day 3
Brescia to Lake Iseo
This cycling day is shorter and takes you into Franciacorta wine country. You'll cycle through Rodengo Saiano, home to a Benedictine abbey where monks still live today, and pass near the castles at Passirano and Clusane. The Sebino Nature Reserve sits along your route, a protected area with plenty of water birds to see. By evening you're at Lake Iseo's shores.

- Day 4
Lake Iseo to Bergamo
You follow the Oglio river as it flows from Lake Iseo and come across Grumello del Monte, a pretty village with distinctive stone houses. From there, you enter Montello's medieval old town, entirely built in stone. The day finishes in Bergamo, and if you arrive early enough, you can check out both the lower town and the upper town accessible by funicular.

- Day 5
Bergamo to Garlate
Today's cycling takes you toward Lago di Lecco in the Lake Como area. You'll pass through Mapello with its Madonna of Prada sanctuary, then reach Sotto il Monte, the birthplace of Pope John XXIII with a museum worth visiting. One of the day's highlights is crossing the Adda river on a cable-pulled ferry that works like Leonardo's designs. You finish by cycling into Garlate along the Adda cycle path.

- Day 6
Garlate to Como
Your route goes past several smaller lakes: Annone, Pusiano, and Alserio, with some dirt road sections mixed in. Things get more scenic around Solzago when you take the Passeggiata Voltiana, named for Alessandro Volta who's buried in the area. You'll go through an exciting descent first into the woods, then along a nice road before reaching Como's center and the shores of the lake.

Como to Lake Maggiore
This is your last cycling day, following Lake Como with its splendid villas around you, particularly Villa Olmo, heading toward Cernobbio. You'll cross into Switzerland briefly before reaching Varese and its lake. Along the Monate lake there's a chance to swim in clear water before arriving in Ispra on Lake Maggiore, passing through the green Quassa cycle path into Ranco. The views of Lake Maggiore from here are really something.
