Itinerary
- Day 1
Cairo
Start by heading to Giza early to see the Great Pyramids, where you'll walk around the Pyramid of Khufu and get a sense of the sheer scale of these structures. The Sphinx is right there as well, so you can take photos and spend time understanding how they fit into the landscape. From there, it's about an hour's drive south to Memphis and Saqqara, where you'll find tombs, temples, and smaller pyramids scattered across the sand. These sites show you how pyramid building evolved over time, and wandering through them gives you a real feel for ancient Egyptian civilization beyond just the famous monuments.

Alexandria
Your private guide will take you through Alexandria's historic spots starting with the Citadel of Qaitbay, a 15th-century fortress right on the waterfront that replaced an ancient lighthouse. After that, you'll see Pompey's Column, which is this massive standalone structure from Roman times. The Library of Alexandria is next, then the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, which blend Egyptian and Greco-Roman styles in the burial chambers. You'll finish at the Roman Theatre, one of the few well-preserved theaters from that era. By the end of the day, you'll have a clear picture of how many different cultures shaped this Mediterranean city.

Fayoum Oasis
Head southwest to the Fayoum Oasis, which feels completely different from Cairo once you get there. The main draw is Wadi El Rayan, where you'll find waterfalls and pools fed by natural springs, surrounded by desert. The landscape itself is what makes this trip work, with dramatic rocky formations and quiet spots where you can just take in the surroundings. You'll also visit an area where fossilized whale remains are preserved in the rock, which is a strange and cool reminder that this was once underwater. The oasis itself has a slower pace and gives you a break from the city before heading back.

Cairo
Spend your final day in Cairo moving through different layers of history. Start at the Egyptian Museum, where the collection of ancient artifacts is genuinely extensive, from mummies to jewelry to statues. Head next to the Islamic Cairo Citadel, which sits on a hill and gives you views over the whole city, and you'll walk through mosques and courtyards that show Egyptian Islamic architecture. Finish in Coptic Cairo, which is the old Christian quarter with narrow streets and several churches that date back centuries. This day ties together different periods and faiths that all shaped modern Egypt.
