Asked on December 16th, 2023Is this a self-guided tour, i.e., there is no local guide, group to walk with? it's sounds like this from the description. Also, it sounds like I need to buy all the local tickets to trains and busses. What is the weather in this area at the end of December - beginning of January? What is the best time to take this tour - any time or spring?
- Exodus Adventure TravelsOperator•Written December 2023
This is a self-guided tour and the walks are done independently. Train and bus tickets are purchased locally. A popular time to travel is the autumn, for the fall and the colours etc.

Traveler•Written December 2023Why the tour lists the number of people in a group? How do you ensure that a person is not lost or get into trouble? How long are the daily walks to get from one destination to the next?
- Exodus Adventure TravelsOperator•Written December 2023
This trip is self-guided with no guide and no group, it is independent walking. Therefore, there are no minimum or maximum numbers for the trip. The accommodations on the trip would reach out to Headwater if you had not checked into the accommodation before 7pm. Alternatively, we also provide the contact number for our local agent should you need any assistance.

Traveler•Written December 2023Is it safe for a single woman to take this trip/walks? I believe English speaking is rare in Kumano Kodo, so it will present some difficulty in case a tourist is lost or needs help. Could I talk to someone who took this tour?
- Exodus Adventure TravelsOperator•Written December 2023
Solo travellers are welcome onto the Walk the Kumano Kodo Trail. However, you would need to be comfortable with walking independently sometimes on remote routes and Mountain Trails, being mindful of bears. English is not widely spoken in this area. Should you get lost we do have an overseas agent whom can assist over the phone if needed.
