Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arusha

You'll head out to Arusha National Park for a full day of game viewing beneath Mount Meru. The park is known for its hippos, giraffes, zebras, and warthogs, so keep your eyes open throughout the drive. You'll likely spot waterbucks and bushbucks as well, and if you're fortunate, leopards or hyenas might show up. The alkaline areas support year-round flamingoes, which create great photo opportunities. Bring binoculars and plan to spend several hours in the vehicle to cover different sections of the park.

This morning takes you to Materuni village, where the Chagga people live near Kilimanjaro. You'll hike about 40 minutes to reach waterfalls that drop over 80 meters, and there's time for a swim in the pools below. After hiking back to the village, lunch features traditional Chagga food followed by banana beer tasting. The afternoon focuses on coffee, where you'll learn how the Chagga grow, roast, and process their beans. You'll get hands-on experience grinding coffee by hand while locals perform traditional songs and dances.

The Kilimanjaro climb was difficult but incredibly rewarding upon reaching the summit and the wonderful experience of the journey to the top. Our trip was enhanced by the exceptional support from Zara Tanzania Adventures. Everyone of the crew was genuinely interested in making our experience wonderful, safe, and memorable. They helped us navigate through the Lemosho course which had some tough sections. Lema, the chief guide, was a great leader, and he made sure that we were all well taken care of. The quality of tents and other equipment was very good. I recommend Zara Tanzania Adventures to those seeking excellent trekking service on Kilimanjaro.

By any measure, it was a wonderful safari tour experience in Tanzania. Everything went off as planned owing to the excellent planning and perfect execution by the team at Zara. We were paired with an outstanding guide/driver Juma who was an expert on Ngorongoro, Serengeti; flora, fauna, culture and so much about Tanzania, giving his insight on the same. We had many wonderful encounters with wildlife, perfect picnics on the land and amazing times back at the carefully selected tented camps and lodges. The Land Cruiser was spacious and comfortable and kept very clean. The weather was great and we had an incredible time. We did not get to see the migration in Serengeti but we still enjoyed the overall experience a lot!

This trek was one of the toughest challenges I have ever undertaken, and having the support of Zara Tanzania made all the difference. I highly recommend working with Zara Tanzania Adventures on Kilimanjaro because I witnessed the expertise and resources they have built over the years. The crew, led by our tour guide Lema, was knowledgeable, attentive, and brilliant. We learned so much about Kilimanjaro and shared many special moments on the trail. The food was incredibly nice and plentiful. We all made it to the summit and owe it all to the team from Zara
