    Burlington to Green Mountain

Your guide meets you at the Burlington hotel and drives out through Vermont's countryside to reach the trailhead. From there, you'll hike up to Green Mountain's summit, stopping partway for a trail lunch with views. The descent takes you to a remote pond campsite where you'll set up your tent for the night. After getting settled, there's a short loop walk around the pond, and you'll have time to swim before dinner.

    Appalachian Trail Loop

You'll wake to camp breakfast by the pond, then head out onto the Appalachian Trail (also called the Long Trail here) for several miles of hiking. The route loops back to yesterday's starting area, giving you a chance to rest and eat lunch. After that break, you continue on to a Long Trail shelter and hike through forested mountain terrain toward a creek-side campsite. The afternoon gives you time to relax, explore the area a bit, then gather for dinner and a campfire.

  3. Day 3

    Long Trail to Secluded Lake

This morning starts slower with a leisurely breakfast and no rushed departure. You'll walk along a running creek on an older section of the Long Trail, moving through dense forest and over mountain terrain. As the day goes on, the trail opens up onto what used to be a logging road, and it follows the creek for most of your walk. By evening you reach camp near a secluded lake with a Long Trail shelter nearby. There's time to get in the lake before your final camp dinner and celebratory fire.

Midday you'll stop at a Long Trail shelter where your guide has prepared lunch. After eating, you finish out the last section of hiking and head back to the vehicle for the drive back to Burlington. From there it's time to say goodbye after a few days in the backcountry.
