Arrival in Colliure
You'll arrive in Colliure, a small French fishing village right on the border known for its artist community. From Girona or Barcelona airport, a transfer can be arranged to get you there. Once you settle into your hotel, you'll have the rest of the day to walk around town and get your bearings before the hiking starts tomorrow.

Colliure to Banyuls Coastal Hike
Your first hiking day takes you along quiet coastal paths through the Côte Vermeille, passing rocky cliffs and nice beaches. You'll stop at Port-Vendres to check out the fishing port, then climb up to the lighthouse for really good views of the coast. Along the way you pass old WWII bunkers, chestnut groves, and terraced vineyards with their dry stone walls. The trail gradually slopes downward and ends in Banyuls. Total distance is about 10 km over 4 to 5 hours.

Banyuls to Colera Coastal Hike
This leg follows a high coastal route with constant sea views, moving through vineyards and past rocky cliffs and small bays. You'll walk up Puig Cervera to see toward Cabo Falcó where France meets Spain, then pass the Walter Benjamin monument on your way to Port Bou at the Spanish border. After that you have a choice: take the local train back to Colera, or keep hiking over another ridge through old vineyards and low forests for more panoramic views. The full hike runs roughly 8 to 9 km and takes about 5 hours if you skip the train option.

Colera to Llancá Coastal Hike
Starting from Colera, the coastal trail leads you south with sea views most of the way. You'll pass Garbet beach and Cape Ras before arriving at Llançá, a small village worth exploring. The village has a Romanesque church that's worth a look. This section is about 7 km and usually takes 3 to 4 hours depending on how long you stop.

Llancá to Vilamaniscle
Today you walk the GR11 long-distance trail inland through mountain landscapes filled with maquis shrubs, pine trees, and holm oak forests. You'll pass Sant Silvestre de Valleta, a 10th-century Romanesque building sitting in a quiet valley. Later you reach Vilamaniscle where an eco-hotel lets you cook Catalan food with the owner using vegetables from the garden and local market, plus regional wine. This is a nice way to end the day. The hike covers about 12 km over 5 to 6 hours.

Vilamaniscle to Port de la Selva
A transfer takes you from Vilamaniscle to the Sant Pere de Rodes monastery. From there you hike up to the old Sant Salvador de Verdera castle at 2200 feet, where you get great views of the sea and Costa Brava coast. The monastery itself was most important between the 11th and 13th centuries. After exploring, you hike back down to the coastal path and end the day in Port de la Selva, which was once a major fishing and trading port. About 11 km and 5 to 6 hours of walking.

Port de la Selva to Cadaques
You'll walk through foothills with unusual rock formations that are 450 million years old, passing through spectacular caves and high cliff faces in the Cap de Creus nature park. The lighthouse here has been helping sailors since Roman times. Later you walk past Dalí's summer house in Portlligat and reach Cadaques. If you want, you can take a cab from the lighthouse to swim in some secluded coves. In the evening there's a special dinner featuring local Empordà food at a well-known restaurant. The hiking portion is roughly 9 km over 5 hours.

Cadaques to Roses
The landscape shifts between rocky coastline and long sandy beaches along the Bay of Roses. You walk through the Cap de Creus nature park to Roses, passing through Cala Montjoi. Getting back to Cadaques can be done by intercity bus, by cab if you pay extra, or by taking a coastal boat back. The hiking is about 8 to 10 km and takes 4 to 5 hours depending on your pace and stops.

Cadaques to L'Escala (Section Transition)
This marks the end of the first section from Colliure to Roses. You have individual arrangements for transfers to your departure airport if needed. If you're continuing, you'll travel to either Roses or L'Escala to start the second section heading toward San Feliu de Guixols. You can choose to hike from Roses to L'Escala through beaches and the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà nature park, or take a direct boat to L'Escala, then relax on the beach or visit the old Greco-Roman ruins at Sant Marti de Empuries.

L'Escala to Torroella de Montgri
From L'Escala you head out on the GR92 hiking through the Montgri massif. Before you start, there's an option to visit a local cannery to taste L'Escala anchovies. The hike follows coastal trails with nice Costa Brava views. From Montgri Castle you'll see great panoramic views toward the Pyrenees, the coast, and the Empordà plain. The full day covers roughly 13 km over 6 to 7 hours of hiking.

Torroella de Montgri to Begur
You move away from the mountains and back to the long beaches of Pals. The trail goes along the Ter river toward its mouth, where you can see the protected Illes Medes islands. Pals has a secluded natural beach that stretches to Punta Espinuda, then the path follows cliffsides with rocky edges, small bays, and clear water all the way to Begur. This leg is about 12 km and takes 5 to 6 hours.

Begur to Calella de Palafrugell
Starting from Begur, you walk to Tamariu bay, which was a historic anchorage for sailors. The small bay is pleasant for a break before continuing to Calella de Palafrugell. This coastal town is called the Catalan capital of the Havaneras, named after a Cuban musical tradition. Many residents from here emigrated to Cuba and came back wealthy after independence. Every July there's a festival called Cantada de Habaneras where local fishermen sing old Cuban songs. Today's hike is about 9 km over 4 to 5 hours.

Calella de Palafrugell to Palafrugell
The trail follows the coast to Platja de Castell, where there's a nice bay with white sand. A 1996 referendum kept this area undeveloped, so it stays natural and unspoiled. After that you reach Palafrugell, one of the oldest towns on the Costa Brava and home to the region's third largest port. You can visit the fishing museum and the fish market, which gets fresh catches twice a day in the morning and afternoon. About 10 km and 5 hours of walking today.

Landmarks Platja de Castell Palafrugell - Day 14
Palafrugell to Sant Feliu de Guixols
You walk straight along the coast from Palafrugell across the bay of d'Aro to Sant Feliu de Guixols, following the GR92 trail. Even though the area is more built up, there are still small bays and nice color contrasts to see. Sant Feliu sits below the red stone L'Ardenya massif and connects to the Via Verdes system, which is trails built on old railroad lines. In July and August the town hosts the Porta Ferrada festival with theater, dance, and music performances. Today is roughly 8 km over 3 to 4 hours.
