Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Kenai to Backcountry

    You'll head to the Kenai flight office early in the morning to meet up before boarding a bush plane into the remote backcountry. After you land, there's about a 5-mile hike ahead to reach your first camp, and lunch happens out in the tundra along the way. Once you settle in, you'll have time to walk around and get familiar with the area, work through some packraft basics, then come back for dinner and whatever evening activities the group has planned.

    • Bush plane flight to backcountry zone (approximately 45 minutes)
    • Hike to first camp (approximately 5 miles)

  2. Day 2

    Backcountry

    Coffee's ready at 6:15am followed by breakfast in the gathering tent. You'll spend time learning packrafting techniques, then get out on the water to paddle around and between massive icebergs in glacial lakes. The day mixes hiking and exploring throughout, with lunch either out in the tundra or back at camp. After that, you'll head back to camp, have dinner, and join in on evening activities.

  3. Day 3

    Backcountry

    You're up at 6:15am for coffee, then breakfast in the gathering tent. The day focuses on glacier hiking and exploring the landscape, with lunch in the tundra or at camp depending on what you're doing. You'll also get time on the water for packrafting around icebergs and navigating through some short river rapid sections. After everything, you'll head back to camp, settle in for dinner, and participate in evening activities.

  4. Day 4

    Backcountry River

    Coffee starts at 6:15am with breakfast following in the gathering tent. You'll break down camp and pack all your gear, then hike to where the river put-in is. From there you'll practice packrafting while carrying your full packs before paddling about 6 miles downriver through Class I-III rapids to your next camp. Lunch gets served somewhere along the river, and once you arrive at the new camp, you'll set everything up and settle in for dinner.

    • Camp breakdown and packing
    • Hike to river put-in
    • Packrafting practice with heavy packs
    • Packrafting approximately 6 miles of Class I-III river
  5. Day 5

    Backcountry to Kenai

    Your final morning begins at 6:15am with coffee and breakfast in the gathering tent. You'll take down the last camp, pack everything securely onto your packrafts, then paddle approximately 20 miles of Class I-II river to reach the floatplane pick-up zone. Lunch is served along the river during your paddle. Once you reach the designated zone, you'll catch an early evening floatplane flight back to the mainland.

For tours departing after January 2nd, 2026, a minimum payment of $2,500 is required to confirm your booking with Kenai Backcountry Adventures. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
    • Some departure dates and prices may vary and Kenai Backcountry Adventures will contact you with any discrepancies before your booking is confirmed.
