Itinerary
- Day 1
Giurgiu
You'll board your AmaWaterways river cruise ship in Giurgiu and get settled into your luxury stateroom. This is your chance to meet other passengers and relax on your first evening. The ship becomes your home for the next week as you start your Danube journey, so take time to explore the vessel and get comfortable with how things work on board.

Veliko Tarnovo / Rousse - Ivanovo
Start in Bucharest by walking through the wide boulevards and seeing the Arc de Triomphe. From there, you have choices. Head to Veliko Tarnovo to see its medieval fortress and orthodox temples, or go to Rousse instead for the Neo-Baroque architecture and the UNESCO Rock-Hewn Churches of Ivanovo with their 14th-century frescoes. Either way, it's a chance to see some history.

- Day 3
Baba Vida Fortress / Belogradchik
Vidin, one of Bulgaria's oldest cities, gives you several options to choose from. Check out Baba Vida Fortress, Bulgaria's largest preserved medieval castle, or go hiking around Belogradchik's rock formations. You could also learn traditional Bulgarian yogurt and Banitsa preparation at a local home, or bike through Vidin and head to the castle. Pick what appeals to you most.

Iron Gates
Today you'll see the Iron Gates, one of Europe's most remarkable natural wonders. The Danube narrows as it cuts through magnificent gorges between the Carpathian and Balkan mountains, forming the border between Serbia and Romania. Watch for the ancient carving of Serbian king Decebalus in the mountainside as you pass through.

Belgrade
Belgrade, Serbia's capital, offers multiple ways to spend your time. Tour Kalemegdan Fortress and the Serbian Orthodox Temple of St. Sava, or check out the Royal Palace and House of Flowers, which was Marshal Tito's mausoleum. You could also visit Quburich Distillery to sample Serbian plum brandy and local food with views of Avala Mountain, or go on an active hike to Kalemegdan or take a guided bike tour.

Ilok / Novi Sad - Petrovaradin
In Vukovar, you can tour the city and see the Ovcara Memorial and Eltz Castle, or choose wine tasting in Ilok with famous Grasevina, Traminac and Frankovka wines. After that, you'll cruise to Novi Sad where you can walk through the Old Town or take a guided bike adventure. Later in the evening, visit Petrovaradin Fortress, a mighty stronghold that was never breached.

Pécs / Szekszárd
Enjoy a scenic morning cruise to Mohacs. Once there, visit Pecs with its UNESCO Christian Necropolis, St. Peter's Basilica with catacombs, and the Mosque of Pasha Qasim the Victorious. Alternatively, explore the Szeksard wine region for red wine tasting. If you want to stay active, there's an optional guided bike tour around Mohacs available.

You'll disembark your river cruise in Budapest, Hungary. This marks the end of your Danube journey. Gather your belongings, say goodbye to the ship and your fellow travelers, and head into Budapest to continue your travels or return home.
