- Day 1
Hanoi to Mai Chau
You'll depart Hanoi early on motorbikes heading west along dyke roads to skip the traffic. The route takes you through farming lands and limestone karst scenery toward Mai Chau. After grabbing lunch in Hoa Binh Province, you'll cross the scenic Thung Khe mountain pass and come down into the Mai Chau valley. That evening brings a local performance and time with Thai locals, then you'll stay overnight in a traditional stilt house.

Mai Chau to Phu Yen
Start with an early walk around Mai Chau village to see how locals live and watch Thai women working looms for traditional clothing. You can buy handmade items if something catches your eye. Around 10 am you'll head out to Moc Chau, a highland town focused on tea and dairy. The area has Green H'mong, Dzao, Thai, and Muong ethnic groups. From there you take Road 43 toward the Da River, cross the Da River reservoir by ferry at Van Yen, and continue on winding secondary roads to reach Phu Yen by evening.

Phu Yen to Mu Cang Chai
Your motorbike heads across Lung Lo Pass, historically important during the 1954 Dien Bien Phu campaign. You'll go up Road 32 and ride through the Mu Cang Chai massif at elevations nearly matching Fansipan. The difficult ride comes with some of North Vietnam's best views. You'll stay overnight in a hotel, and the challenging terrain makes for a rewarding day.

- Day 4
Mu Cang Chai to Sa Pa
Riding toward the Fansipan range with an optional challenging route through river crossings. You'll make a solid climb from Binh Lu to Tram Ton Pass, Vietnam's highest road pass over 2,000m/6,560 feet. Crossing into Lao Cai Province gives you panoramic views of the mountain range stretching out for miles. From there you descend into Sa Pa valley, famous for rugged terrain and cultural diversity, historically the French Summer Capital. Overnight stays in a hotel.

Sa Pa to Bac Ha
You'll ride down from Sa Pa to Lao Cai City with a coffee break on the Nam Thi River bank at the Vietnam-China border. The coffee comes with views of China across the way. Then heading to Road 70 and turning toward Bac Ha on Road 153. This highland town stays quiet during weekdays but fills up Sunday mornings for the Flower H'mong market. You can check out home production of rice wine, cassava wine, and corn liquor. Overnight in a home-stay.

Bac Ha to Ha Giang
Riding on tracks to Xin Man and Hoang Su Phi through mountain scenery on back roads. Xin Man sits right on the Vietnam-China border in wild mountains and forests. The single road from Xin Man to Hoang Su Phi passes through some of Ha Giang's most untouched areas, only recently opened up. Local ethnic groups include Nung, Flower H'mong, Tay, and Ha Nhi people. You'll reach Ha Giang City by lunch, stay overnight, and apply for a permit from Immigration Police.

Ha Giang to Dong Van
After getting your permit from Ha Giang Immigration Police, you'll ride challenging beautiful mountain roads through hill-tribe lands. Motorcycling up Ma Pi Leng Pass shows cloudy ranges and the Nho Que river winding below. Following a zig-zag track to Vuong Family's Residence 14 km before Dong Van, built with Chinese architecture using imported wood and rock. The craftsmanship stands out against the Sa Phin valley's natural setting. Then exploring Dong Van's ancient streets with H'mong homes made of clay brick built centuries ago.

Dong Van to Bao Lac
Morning ride winds along the Rock Plateau. After breakfast you'll take slower-paced routes on beautiful mountain passes until reaching Meo Vac for lunch. Afternoon brings downhill riding along the river with different mountain views, less rocky terrain, and more green landscapes. You'll get to Bao Lac town by 5 pm and stay overnight in a hotel.

Bao Lac to Ba Be Lake
Starting early around 8 am to make the most of Ba Be Lake's boat trip. You'll ride off-road for about 20 km on narrow bumpy roads with great views of terraced rice paddies. Crossing several rivers on bamboo bridges rather than standard road crossings. That off-road riding wraps up with lunch in a peaceful Tay village near Ba Be Lake. Then spending the afternoon relaxing on one of Vietnam's largest and nicest natural lakes.

Ba Be Lake to Hanoi
Heading back toward the Red River Delta while staying off main roads as long as possible. You'll pass through areas where Hmong, Dao, Tay, and Nung minorities live. The route mixes challenging tracks with sealed roads all the way back to Hanoi. You'll complete the motorbike tour and get back to Hanoi before rush hour traffic starts.
