Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Kathmandu Arrival

    You'll land at Tribhuwan International Airport where your Peregrine Treks representative picks you up and drives to your hotel. After settling in, the afternoon is yours to rest or visit the office if you'd like. Thamel's streets are nearby if you want to wander around for souvenirs. Tonight features a welcome dinner with authentic Nepalese cuisine to kick off your trip.

  2. Day 2

    Kathmandu Sightseeing & Pre-Trek Meeting

    Following breakfast, you'll take a guided tour through Kathmandu's spiritual and historical landmarks, including several UNESCO sites. The itinerary covers Durbar Square, Pashupati Nath temple, Swayambunath (the Monkey Temple), and Boudhanath Stupa. After lunch, you'll meet your trek leader and fellow team members for a pre-trek briefing session where everything gets explained and you can address any concerns.

  3. Day 3

    Kathmandu to Arughat

    A 7-8 hour drive takes you west from Kathmandu through mountain roads toward Arughat via Dhadingbesi. You'll pass through lush green hills across the Dhading district. Arughat sits divided by the Budhi Gandaki river, which marks where your trek officially starts tomorrow.

  4. Day 4

    Arughat to Soti Khola

    Your trek kicks off by crossing the Budhi Gandaki bridge and heading north through the bazaar on stone-paved paths. The route winds through rice and millet fields, past a hydroelectric plant, and through villages like Mangaltar and Shanti Bazar. As the trail gets steeper into the valley, you'll cross a suspension bridge at Arkhet and climb to Kuerepani before descending to Soti Khola.

  5. Day 5

    Soti Khola to Machha Khola

    You'll trek through Sal forests and climb onto a ridge above the Budhi Gandaki rapids. A rocky trail passes two tropical waterfalls attached to cliff faces. After crossing rice terraces and the Gurung village of Labubesi, you'll descend to a sandy river bed dotted with rounded stones, finishing the day at Machha Khola village.

  6. Day 6

    Machha Khola to Jagat

    The day follows the Budhi Gandaki with steady ups and downs. You'll pass a small hot spring trailside before reaching Tatopani, then cross the river on a suspension bridge. A wide stone staircase, a landslide section, and multiple suspension bridges take you through villages including Dobhan, Duman, Yaru Khola, and Tharo Bharyang, ending in Jagat.

  7. Day 7

    Jagat to Chisopani

    After completing the ACAP permit procedure, you'll climb over a rocky ridge to Salleri and descend to Sirdibas. The valley opens up as you continue upstream to Ghatta Khola and cross a long hanging bridge. From there, climb to Philim, a large Gurung village with a Japanese-made school and police station. Trek north through forests with valley views narrowing ahead to reach Chisopani.

  8. Day 8

    Chisopani to Chumling

    Trek through alpine forests crossing Ekle Bhatti and walking past a beautiful waterfall. Pine forests lead you toward the Tsum Valley trail, then you'll climb through pine and rhododendron forests. Himalchuli mountain (7,893m/25,896ft) and Boudha Himal show themselves from the small village of Lokpa. Continuing north through challenging pine and rhododendron sections, you'll reach Gumlung, cross Siyar Khola, and arrive at Chumling where the old gompa and stone streets wait.

  9. Day 9

    Chumling to Chokhangparo

    Cross a suspension bridge and continue through Tsum Valley with impressive Ganesh Himal views. You'll trek past Rainjam to Serpu Khola, crossing another bridge to reach Gho Village. Two more hours of climbing bring you to Chhokangparo where weather permitting, Himalchuli (7,893m/25,896ft) and Ganesh Himal (7,140m/23,425ft) display themselves spectacularly.

  10. Day 10

    Chokhangparo to Nile

    Climb above Chokhangparo toward Rachen Gompa (the Nunnery Gompa) for a brief visit. After crossing Shiar Khola, trek through well-managed villages including Lar with its micro hydro system, Phurba, and Pangdun. Pass an old Buddha stupa before crossing a bridge to arrive at Nile. An optional detour to the famous Chhule monastery is available if interested.

    Nile to Mu Gompa

    Trek through Tibetan landscapes along the valley's west bank as you approach the Tibetan border. Climb to Mu Gompa monastery and explore its grounds, then head to Dhephu Doma Gompa. Mu Gompa holds the distinction of being the largest monastery in this remote Tsum Valley region.

    Mu Gompa Region Exploration

    Spend today exploring the Mu Gompa region. The monastery sits at the highest and most remote part of Tsum Valley. After checking out the gompa area, you have the option to visit Pika Himal's base (4,865m/15,961ft) if you want to extend your exploration further.

  13. Day 13

    Mu Gompa to Burgi

    Trek back through Chhule and Phurba on the east bank of Shiar Khola, then arrive at Burgi, a small beautiful village. Climb to Milarepa's Cave (Piren Phu) which offers mesmerizing views of Poshyop Glacier, Kipu Himal, and Churke Himal.

  14. Day 14

    Burgi to Chumling

    Continue trekking through natural greenery and descend back to Chhokang Paro. From there, keep descending to Gho, then cross the bridge over Sarpu Khola. Trek along lower Tsum Valley, eventually arriving back at Chumling where you'll overnight.

  15. Day 15

    Chumling to Philim

    Trek continues to Lokpa, then after lunch you'll move south on a flat trail. Along the way, you'll see the gorgeous Samba Falls before continuing a long 6-7 hour trek to Philim. A trail from Philim leads to Ganesh Himal Base Camp if you're interested in extending further.

  16. Day 16

    Philim to Khorlabesi

    Trek from Philim toward Khorlabesi via Jagat and Tatopani. Descend to Sirdibas, then reach Jagat. Further descent takes you to Yaruphant where the arid Tibetan climate gives way to subtropical green vegetation. Continue to Dobhan and finally arrive at Tatopani with its natural hot spring. If interested, soak in the hot spring before the final walk to Khorlabesi.

  17. Day 17

    Khorlabesi to Soti Khola

    Trek through Sal forests and walk along the ridge above Budhi Gandaki. Cross Tharo Khola in its rocky ravine and continue down to the river. Pass through the Gurung village of Labubesi and two waterfalls on a steep rocky cliff trail. You'll reach Khursane before crossing the bridge to arrive at Soti Khola.

  18. Day 18

    Soti Khola to Kathmandu

    Begin with a 4-hour hike from Soti Khola, climbing to Kyorpani ridge and descending to a cascading waterfall. Continue to Arkhet, cross Arkhet Khola, and exit Budhi Gandaki Valley. Pass through Sante Bazaar and forests to Maltar, then the hydroelectric plant and stone streets back to Arughat Bazar. Board your vehicle for the scenic 7-8 hour drive back to Kathmandu along the Marsyangdi and Trishuli rivers. This evening, celebrate with a farewell dinner.

    Kathmandu Departure

    Your Nepal adventure wraps up today. The morning's free for trading emails with fellow travelers, organizing photos, or grabbing last-minute shopping and sightseeing if time allows. Your Peregrine Treks representative will transfer you to the airport about 3 hours before your scheduled flight, giving plenty of time to reflect on the trek and start planning your next adventure.

    The Tsum Valley Trek is an absolute ripper of a journey that takes you through some of the most picturesque landscapes in the Himalayas. The trail is a real challenge, with steep climbs and descents, but the payoff is bloody beautiful views of mountains and valleys. The local people are a friendly and welcoming bunch, and learning about their customs and traditions is an absolute delight.

    • For any tour departing before December 31st, 2025 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after December 31st, 2025, a minimum payment of 25% is required to confirm your booking with Peregrine Treks and Expedition Pvt Ltd. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
