Itinerary
- Day 1
Eguisheim
You'll arrive in Eguisheim, a medieval wine village that won the title of most beautiful in France back in 2013. Spend your first day walking through the flower-lined streets and getting familiar with the area before your hiking starts. This gives you time to settle in, grab lunch somewhere local, and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Eguisheim to Turckheim
Head out on your first hike through vineyards toward Husseren and the three castles of Eguisheim. You'll climb to 600m elevation, and from Hohlandsbourg Castle you get views across wine villages and the Alsatian plain stretching out below. The route ends in Turckheim where a night watchman still does his traditional march through town at 10 p.m., which is worth staying up to see. Plan on about 4.5 hours of walking today.

Turckheim to Kaysersberg
This hike takes you through vine-covered vineyards around Katzenthal and Käferkopf. You'll climb up to Bornthalkopf's top and then drop down into the wine region around Kaysersberg, a historic town with a distinctive shape and old buildings that stand out along the Wine Route. The walking time runs around 4.5 hours, so you'll have afternoon light to explore town after you finish.

Kaysersberg to Munster
Today you leave the wine villages behind and head into the Vosges mountains where you can see across to the Rhine plain, Black Forest, and even the Alps on a clear day. You'll climb through forests and rocky ground up to Petit Hohnack at 927m and Le Grand Hohnack at 982m. After crossing the Croix de Wihr pass, you descend into Munster, which is known for its famous cheese. This is a longer day at around 6.5 hours of walking, so pace yourself and take breaks as needed.

Munster to Wintzfelden
You'll hike through the softer Vosges landscape with vineyards, castles, and light forests. The route passes through Wassenberg at 746m and the old town of Wassenbourg, then climbs Mühlkopf at 805m before dropping to Wintzfelden. By the end of this section you're back in Alsatian vineyard country. Expect about 5 hours of walking.

Wintzfelden to Eguisheim
Your final hiking day takes you high above the valley with views down onto wine villages tucked among the vineyards. You'll walk through some of Alsace's best vineyards and eventually loop back to Eguisheim where you started. This completes your circular route, and the walk takes roughly 5 hours. It's a nice way to see how everything connects together.
