Neustadt an der Weinstraße
Start your wine tour with a meeting and bike fitting in Neustadt, where you'll get oriented before heading out. Walk through the winding alleyways of this wine region, and you'll see the impressive abbey church that dominates the skyline. There's also a quirky fountain called the Elwedritschenbrunnen that's worth checking out while you explore the town.

Neustadt to Rastatt
Today you'll cycle through several romantic wine villages, starting with the medieval market hall in Landau. From there, head to Landeck castle for views across the Rhine Valley, then continue to Bad Bergzabern to see its Baroque palace. Later you'll pass through Wissembourg to visit the former Benedictine abbey, and after that, cycle past the wine gate in Schweigen. The afternoon brings forest and valley riding before you reach Rastatt and its impressive baroque residence.

- Day 3
Rastatt to Speyer
Cycle along the Rhine heading past Karlsruhe, where you can see the castle and pyramid. Continue through the Hördter Rheinauen nature reserve and then make your way to Germersheim, a former fortified city with real character. Later in the day, you'll reach Speyer to visit its cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and definitely worth taking time to explore.

- Day 4
Speyer to Worms
Cycle through the Rhine plain heading to Schwetzingen first, where you can walk through the palace and gardens. From there, continue to Heidelberg to see Germany's oldest university and the famous palace complex overlooking the town. Spend time in the old town along the Neckar river, then head to Ladenburg to see its half-timbered houses. Your day ends in Worms, the old imperial city known for its legendary cathedral.

Worms to Mainz
Today's a more relaxed ride along the Rhine on scenic paths leading to Oppenheim, known as the town of 'Gothic and wine'. You'll take a short ferry ride across the Rhine where you get good views of Nierstein and its surrounding vineyards. After that, cycle directly through the vines toward Mainz and its second imperial cathedral waiting at the end of the day.

Mainz to Alzey
Cross the Rhine and head to Rüdesheim, where a cable car ride over the vineyards is something worth doing if you have time. Cross the Rhine again to reach Bingen, located at the mouth of the Nahe river and right where four wine-growing regions meet. From there, cycle through vineyards with rolling terrain up and down to Alzey, called the 'Volkerstadt' and connected to the fiddler from the Song of the Nibelungs.

Alzey to Neustadt
You'll reach Bobenheim where the German Wine Route officially begins. Cycle through Grünstadt, a tranquil winegrowing town, and pass through several beautiful wine villages along the way. Stop at Bad Dürkheim to see the largest wine barrel in the world, then head to Deidesheim to check out the medieval town hall wine museum. Finish the day by cycling over the Palatinate balcony back to Neustadt, completing your route through Germany's wine country.
