Itinerary
- Day 1
Nairobi to Mount Kenya
You'll start with a pickup in Nairobi early in the morning, then drive north toward Nanyuki town where you'll stop for lunch. Along the way you'll cross the equator, which makes for a nice photo opportunity. After lunch, the real adventure begins when you head to Sirimon Park gate to start your trek. From there you'll walk through montane forest with tall trees and moss-covered branches, moving into bamboo zones and eventually reaching the higher heather areas. The elevation increases as you go, and by evening you'll arrive at Old Moses camp where you'll have dinner and spend your first night at altitude.

As you push toward Mackinders Valley, the views start opening up and you can see across toward where you're headed. Shipton Camp sits below the mountain's peaks and glaciers, and when you arrive you'll notice rock hyrax hopping around and colorful sunbirds in the plants. You'll settle in here for the night.
