Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Kathmandu

You'll land in Kathmandu and get settled into your hotel. A company representative meets you at check-in to go over the details of the Langtang Circuit Trek and what to expect over the next couple of weeks.

    Start point
    Kathmandu, Bagmati, Nepal (Kathmandu)
  2. Day 2

    Kathmandu

Spend the day exploring Kathmandu with a licensed local guide in an air-conditioned car. You'll visit four UNESCO World Heritage sites: Swayambhu, a Buddhist stupa perched on a hilltop; Boudhnath, another significant stupa; Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva where cremation ceremonies take place; and Kathmandu Durbar Square, where you can see the residence of the living goddess Kumari. This tour gets you away from the main tourist crowds and into the real culture of the city.

    Included Activities

    • Guided Kathmandu city tour with local guide in A/C car
    • Visit Swayambhu (self-created Buddhist stupa)
    • Visit Boudhnath (stupa on relics of Kanakmuni Buddha)
    • Visit Pashupatinath (Hindu cremation site)
    • Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square (living goddess Kumari)
    • Off-the-beaten-path local experiences
    Landmarks/POIs
    Swayambhu

  3. Day 3

    Kathmandu to Syapru Bensi

Today you travel from Kathmandu toward Langtang. You can either take a bus for about 8 hours or opt for a jeep via the Nepal-China border road, which cuts the drive to around 4 hours. Both routes wind through river valleys with views of the water and surrounding hills. As you get closer to Syapru Bensi, snowcapped peaks including Langtang Lirung come into view above the winding, steep roads.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Optional Activities

    • Jeep transfer via new Nepal-China border road (approximately 4 hours alternative to bus)
    Landmarks/POIs
    Langtang Lirung
  4. Day 4

    Syapru Bensi to Lama Hotel

Your trek starts at Syapru and heads to Lama Hotel, a 6-hour walk. The terrain varies as you go alongside the river, moving through villages and open landscapes. You'll stay at locally-run tea houses where you pick meals from their menus. A guide leads the way while a porter handles your main bag, so you only carry a small daypack with what you need for the day.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trekking from Syapru to Lama Hotel (6 hours)
    • Walking by the side of river with diverse landscapes
    • Guided trekking with porter support
  5. Day 5

    Lama Hotel to Ghoda Tabela

From Lama Hotel, trek through jungle for 6 hours to Ghoda Tabela, crossing the river once along the way. Your guide shares how the area changed after the earthquake and the avalanche that hit Langtang years back. Langtang Lirung at 7,205 meters fills much of the view ahead as you walk through the thickening forest.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trekking from Lama Hotel through jungle
    • River crossing experience
    • Guided exploration of post-earthquake landscape
    Landmarks/POIs
    Langtang Lirung
    Langtang River
  6. Day 6

    Ghoda Tabela to Kyanjin

The 4-hour walk to Kyanjin village stays mostly flat with some gradual climbing. You're at 3,900 meters now, and the tree line has opened up, giving you 360-degree views of the mountains around you. Wind coming down from the glaciers picks up as you climb, so dress in layers you can adjust.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trekking from Ghoda Tabela to Kyanjin (4 hours)
    • Mostly flat trail with gradual ascent
    • 360-degree mountain scenery
  7. Day 7

    Acclimatization Hike

Use this day to help your body adjust to the altitude. You'll take a short hike of 45 minutes to an hour up to either Kyanjin Ri or Tseku Ri (4,984 meters) for panoramic views in all directions. From there you see Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Nayakhanga, Dorje Lakpa, and other major peaks. If you have energy, the Langtang Lirung base camp is about an hour away, or walk around the village to get a feel for how people live up here.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Short acclimatization hike to Kyanjin Ri or Tseku Ri (45 minutes to 1 hour)
    • 360-degree mountain panorama viewing

    Optional Activities

    • Hike to Langtang Lirung base camp (1 hour from Kyanjin village)

  8. Day 8

    Kyanjin to Lama Hotel

Head back down to Lama Hotel retracing the same route, which takes about 7 hours. Downhill hiking is usually easier on your lungs though your legs might feel it. Let your guide know ahead of time if your knees are giving you trouble so they can slow things down for the group.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trekking downhill from Kyanjin to Lama Hotel (7 hours)
  9. Day 9

    Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru

Trek uphill for 8 hours to Thulo Syabru, a real working village (different from Syapru Bensi where you started). The climb is steady, so take it at your own pace and pay attention to how your body feels throughout the day. Along the way you pass several holy lakes including Saraswati Kund and Bhairab Kunda. These lakes hold deep meaning in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions, and local stories connect them to Lord Shiva. The surrounding mountains include Himal Chuli, Manaslu, and Ganesh Himal towering above.

Customer Reviews

  • Langtang Circuit Trek - 17 Days reviewer 1
    · May 11th, 2023
On this trip I traveled solo, which I hadn't done before. Everything about the trip was good. Arun was excellent to work with setting up the trip, and making changes when I wanted them. I had been to Nepal before, but the tour before the trek was much more in depth than previous trips to Kathmandu. I had an excellent guide, Shiva who was able to point out every mountain, and their heights. He was superb at meeting my needs and taking care of those things I wished to change from the initial itinerary. Nuru was my porter. He was young energetic and strong. Both Shiva and Nuru were fun to be with and made every part of my trek excellent. I have traveled with American groups before and such groups are more removed from the culture. Traveling with a Nepali company changed thing and made the trip far more cultural, and in some ways much more of a learning experience. I highly recommend Nepalgram for treks in Nepal.
