Villach
You'll arrive at your hotel in Villach whenever works for your schedule. Parking is available right near the hotel, so getting your bike and gear sorted is straightforward.



- Day 2
Villach to Tarvisio
Your cycling starts by following the River Gail as you leave Austria and head into Italy. You'll pass through the Canal Valley border triangle where Austria, Slovenia, and Italy all meet, and you can feel the shift from Germanic to Romanic to Slavic cultures. The ride brings you to Tarvisio, the border town.

- Day 3
Kanaltal Valley
Starting from Tarvisio, a mountain resort town surrounded by valleys and forests, you'll cycle through the Kanaltal valley. The Friulian Alpine region has pristine nature and extensive forests throughout, making for a nice ride through quiet terrain.

Landmarks Tarvisio - Day 4
Kanaltal Valley to Udine
You're cycling to Gemona del Friuli, which is one of the historic towns worth seeing in the region with its impressive Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. From there the route goes through wine country with vine-covered hills, and then you reach Udine with its Venetian influences. You'll see late Gothic and Renaissance buildings and have time to relax in the main piazza.

Grado
This day you have flexibility built in. You can explore the ancient city of Aquilea, known as the 'Second Rome', with its Roman ruins and ancient churches. Or if you prefer a different pace, spend the day on the sandy beaches along the Adriatic coast.

Grado to Trieste
You'll cycle through the rugged Karst hinterland and along the beautiful coastal area toward Trieste. Miramare Castle is on the route before you arrive in Trieste, the former Habsburg city and historic port. If the full stage feels like too much, you can take the train from Monfalcone to shorten it.
