Villach to Tarvisio
Starting from Villach, you'll follow the River Gail as it leads you south into Italy and toward Tarvisio in the Canal Valley. This area sits at the intersection where Austria, Italy, and Slovenia all meet, so you'll notice the cultural blend right away with Germanic, Romanic, and Slavic influences mixed throughout. It's a fascinating border region that feels like three countries at once.

Canal Valley to Udine

After that, the route continues through wine country toward Udine, where Venetian architecture and Gothic buildings create a charming atmosphere. Spend time in the main square with a coffee and wander the Renaissance streets.
