Gröbming

The blue hour (that time just after sunset) is particularly good for photos here.

Steinerhaus to Viehbergalm
This hiking day takes you from Steinerhaus to Viehbergalm, passing through a larch forest and an old mule track. You'll go through the Notgasse ravine, which has UNESCO-protected rock carvings carved into the stone. From there, it's down to Brandalm and then along the Bettlersteig trail to reach Viehbergalm, a small alpine village with several staffed huts serving fresh food. You're carrying your own luggage today, though your other bags get transferred to Bad Mitterndorf for tomorrow.

You'll pass the Steinitzenalm alpine hut (good for a break), then continue through Langmoosalm and down the Almgraben valley into Bad Mitterndorf. This historic spa town has healing springs that the Celts knew about centuries ago, and you get views of the Grimming massif from here. Later, you reach Ödensee, a forest moor lake where you can swim if you want, with a stop at the Kohlröserihütte inn. After that, follow the forest path along the Traun River and past the Vogelhutte to reach Bad Aussee, a spa town built from the salt industry.
