- Day 1
Kagoshima
You'll arrive in Kagoshima, a modern coastal city on Kyushu Island with views of Sakurajima volcano across the water. Arrange your own transport to the hotel by bus or taxi, or book a private transfer if you prefer. Luggage storage is available if you arrive early, though official check-in starts at 15:00. By evening, you'll meet the group for a welcome briefing and dinner together.

Kagoshima to Yakushima
A speedboat takes you to Yakushima, a UNESCO Heritage island and one of Japan's greenest places. You'll visit the Yakusugi Museum and walk through Yakusgi Land and Kigensugi to see cedar trees up to 7,000 years old that inspired Princess Mononoke. Later, try the onsen hot spring baths at your hotel and have Japanese dinner in the evening.

Yakushima
Walk through one of Yakushima's accessible nature parks to see ancient cedar trees like Nidaio Sugi, Kuguri Sugi, and Yayoi Sugi. You'll take a guided tour through Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine on medium-level trails through forest that feels prehistoric. The well-maintained paths make the hike manageable for most fitness levels.

Yakushima to Tokunoshima
After a relaxed morning, the speedboat brings you back to Kagoshima. From there, you'll board a night ferry to Tokunoshima and settle into your 2nd Class bunk with shared facilities. Dinner is served on board, so you can eat before getting some rest.

Tokunoshima
The ferry docks at 09:10am on Tokunoshima, the second largest Amami Island, known for coral coasts and traditional bull sumo wrestling. You'll spend the day seeing Akirigami petroglyphics, Unbuki well, Inutabu cape, and walk through Agon village. Before dinner, try the traditional foamy 'furicha' tea.

Tokunoshima

Tokunoshima to Okinoerabu
The 09:40 ferry takes you to Okinoerabu, a coral island with over 300 limestone caves and part of Amami Gunto National Park. You'll see the Gajumaru Tree at Kasaishi Kaihin Park and tour Shoryudo caves. Choose between cave diving with provided gear or walking to hidden beaches. Explore scenic coastal spots and Wanjo beach.

Okinoerabu to Okinawa
Start with a relaxed morning at leisure before boarding the 12:00 ferry to Okinawa. You'll arrive at Naha Port at 19:00 after a day of sea views and spotting marine wildlife. From there, taxi transfer takes you to your hotel.

Naha
Walk through Naha on foot and by public transport to see Makishi Market, Kokusai-doori, Shuri Castle and its park, Fukushuen Garden, and Naminoue Shrine. Later, head to the Churaumi Aquarium at Ocean Expo Park, which has 740 species including whale sharks in large tanks. Also check out the Buena Underwater Observatory.

Yanbaru, Northern Okinawa
A private coach takes you on a full-day tour of Yanbaru, Okinawa's northern region and a recent addition to UNESCO Natural Heritage Sites. You'll visit Mangrove Forest in Gesashi Bay, the Yanbaru Wildlife Conservation Centre, Daiseki Rinzan nature park, and Cape Hedo at the island's northern tip. This evening features a farewell dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Your tour concludes today. You can fly out from Naha Airport for your next destination. If you're doing the add-on extension to mainland Japan, use the monorail or public transport to reach Naha Airport for your morning flight to Osaka.
