You'll arrive in Trier, which happens to be Germany's oldest city, and have time to explore what makes it historically significant. The Porta Nigra is the main draw here, a massive Roman gate that's been standing for centuries. After checking that out, you can wander through the Roman excavations scattered around the city to get a sense of what was here before.
