  1. Day 1

    Oslo to Lake Bygdin

You'll arrive in Oslo and take a bus north to Lake Bygdin, which takes about 4 hours through beautiful scenery. Your hotel sits right on the lake with snowy peaks surrounding it and the water reflecting everything back. If you get there early enough, there's an optional walk available that runs 1.5 to 2 hours and covers 5km with some elevation gain of 450m.

    Optional Activities

    • Short walk above Lake Bygdin (1.5-2 hours, 5km, +450m/-450m elevation change)

  2. Day 2

    Bitihorn Peak

This is where your independent walking trek really starts. You'll head up to Bitihorn peak at 1,607m, and the higher you climb, the more the views open up with jagged peaks and glacier-fed lakes coming into view. The push to the summit gets steep near the end, but once you reach it, you're looking out over Jotunheimen Park and Lake Bygdin spread out below.

Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch pack (preparing your own from buffet breakfast or provided by accommodation)), Dinner

    Included Activities

  3. Day 3

    Lake Bygdin to Gjendebu

After breakfast, you'll take a boat across the lake for about 45 minutes to reach Torfinnsbu. From there, the trail climbs steeply up to a waterfall, then winds through peaks with 3 different lakes visible along the way. Things flatten out after that and you'll walk through rolling landscape to reach Gjendebu with its emerald-colored water. On the route, you'll pass Knutsholstind, which has this distinctive pyramid shape.

    Meals
Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch pack (preparing your own from buffet breakfast or provided by accommodation)), Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Historic Bitihorn boat crossing to Torfinnsbu (approximately 45 minutes)

You have a free day here to just relax around your accommodation, or if you want to get out, there's an optional hike to Gjendetunga that takes 3.5 to 4.5 hours and covers 10km with about 550m of elevation change. The hike takes you up to a spot where you can stop for lunch and look out over the calm waters of Lake Gjende.

From there, your self-guided walk crosses the Veslåe River over two bridges, then moves through a birch forest that has an almost mythical quality to it. The trail climbs into a wide rocky valley with great panoramic views before descending to Lake Bygdin on the opposite shore from where you started. By evening, you'll reach Fondsbu DNT, which is known for its food, especially their local cheeses and cured meats.

If you'd prefer to go to Bergen instead, there's an option for an extra 50 EUR per person, which involves a taxi to Tyinkrysset and then a bus to Bergen, getting you there around 18:00.

Had a great time. Your team helped reschedule the bus and hotel reservations after our flight got cx and we were 24 hrs late getting to Norway. Everything else went off great! Food and lodging all great. Loved the country and hikes were amazing! Highly recommend!

The tour was very well organised, everything we needed was taken care of and there was no confusion about accomodation or baggage transfers. The hospitality in all locations was great and accomodating for vegetarians. Self-guided hiking was excellent as the routes were fairly simple to follow, and although a popular time, it was very private whilst hiking allowing us to enjoy the views and scenery at our own pace.

This was a great tour with a good value that allowed us to easily plan many days for an wonderful experience. Highlights: easy instructions, booking, and awesome hikes. Some areas of improvement: * Ideally would be good to know in advance whether we have a private double room or shared quad. * The last day had 5 hours of scheduled downtime before catching our bus. We were able to ask about schedules and hop on an earlier one. Wish this was scheduled in place to start. * Download GPS!

Fabulous adventure! We even asked to be dropped off at Bergen instead of Oslo when the tour ended, but this was not a problem for Traventuria to accommodate!

After visiting a few times the most popular hiking regions in Europe we decided to explore further north and our natural choice fell to Norway. The area of this walking tour is within easy reach of Oslo. It was a bit pricey but nothing in Norway is cheap. Actually many of the other treks we considered were even more expensive and we were glad that we found this one. The tour was excellent and all land arrangements went smooth. We were lucky to have clear skies throughout our stay. We are considering visiting Sweden now.
