Itinerary
- Day 1
Oslo to Lake Bygdin
You'll arrive in Oslo and take a bus north to Lake Bygdin, which takes about 4 hours through beautiful scenery. Your hotel sits right on the lake with snowy peaks surrounding it and the water reflecting everything back. If you get there early enough, there's an optional walk available that runs 1.5 to 2 hours and covers 5km with some elevation gain of 450m.

Bitihorn Peak
This is where your independent walking trek really starts. You'll head up to Bitihorn peak at 1,607m, and the higher you climb, the more the views open up with jagged peaks and glacier-fed lakes coming into view. The push to the summit gets steep near the end, but once you reach it, you're looking out over Jotunheimen Park and Lake Bygdin spread out below.

Lake Bygdin to Gjendebu
After breakfast, you'll take a boat across the lake for about 45 minutes to reach Torfinnsbu. From there, the trail climbs steeply up to a waterfall, then winds through peaks with 3 different lakes visible along the way. Things flatten out after that and you'll walk through rolling landscape to reach Gjendebu with its emerald-colored water. On the route, you'll pass Knutsholstind, which has this distinctive pyramid shape.

Gjendebu
You have a free day here to just relax around your accommodation, or if you want to get out, there's an optional hike to Gjendetunga that takes 3.5 to 4.5 hours and covers 10km with about 550m of elevation change. The hike takes you up to a spot where you can stop for lunch and look out over the calm waters of Lake Gjende.

- Circular trek to Gjendetunga (10km; 3.5-4.5 hours; +/-550m elevation change) with lunch overlooking Lake Gjende

Landmarks/POIs Gjendetunga Lake Gjende - Day 5
Gjendebu to Fondsbu
You'll start the day with a good breakfast, then take a boat from Gjendesheim across to Gjendebu. From there, your self-guided walk crosses the Veslåe River over two bridges, then moves through a birch forest that has an almost mythical quality to it. The trail climbs into a wide rocky valley with great panoramic views before descending to Lake Bygdin on the opposite shore from where you started. By evening, you'll reach Fondsbu DNT, which is known for its food, especially their local cheeses and cured meats.

Landmarks/POIs Lake Bygdin - Day 6
Fondsbu to Oslo or Bergen
A boat leaves from Eidsbugarden around noon and takes about 1 hour 45 minutes to reach Bygdin. From there, you'll catch a bus back to Oslo, arriving late in the evening around 20:30. If you'd prefer to go to Bergen instead, there's an option for an extra 50 EUR per person, which involves a taxi to Tyinkrysset and then a bus to Bergen, getting you there around 18:00.
