Dar Es Salaam to Mikumi National Park
Your safari starts with a drive from Dar Es Salaam to Mikumi National Park. Once you arrive, you'll head out on your first game drive where elephants, giraffes, zebras, and birds are all possibilities depending on what's moving around that day. It's a good way to get your eyes adjusted to spotting wildlife and see how the guide reads the landscape.

Mikumi National Park
This is a full day in Mikumi with multiple game drives hitting different sections of the park. Your guide will take you through areas known for lions, buffalo, wildebeest, and hippos. You'll spend most of the day in the vehicle, so bring plenty of water and sunscreen. The multiple drives mean better chances of catching different animals in various parts of the park.

Mikumi to Selous National Park
After breakfast, you'll travel to Selous National Park, which is the largest wildlife reserve on the continent. When you arrive, you can hang out at the lodge and settle in or join a short activity if you're not too tired from the drive. This evening you'll have time to relax and get a feel for the reserve's atmosphere.

Selous National Park
You've got a full day exploring Selous with your guide taking you deep into the park. The landscape changes throughout the reserve with different habitats, and you'll be looking for elephants, wild dogs, antelopes, and hippos, particularly along the Rufiji River. Your guide knows the best spots and timing for viewing, so you'll spend hours tracking and photographing wildlife.

Another full day in Selous, this time pushing deeper into areas where you might spot rarer species. The park is large enough that each day feels different. You'll likely have a picnic lunch somewhere in the bush, which gives you a break and a chance to observe animals from a different vantage point.

After breakfast, the drive back to Dar Es Salaam begins. It's a good time to process what you've seen and jot down notes or review photos. The drive itself takes several hours, so you'll have time to think back on the various animals and moments from the past few days. Once you reach Dar Es Salaam, your guide arranges your transfer to wherever you're headed next.
