- Day 1
Brussels
You'll arrive in Brussels and have the day to explore on your own terms. The Grande Place is right there if you want to see it, and the Manneken Pis is a quirky spot worth checking out if you're into that sort of thing. The city's got plenty of cultural spots to wander through, decent shopping if that interests you, and the food scene is solid. Just walk around and see what catches your eye.

- Day 2
Brussels to Mechelen
Head out on your bike heading east through the Brussels suburbs. You'll pass the Afrika Museum in Tervuren, then ride through Erps and Kampenhout on your way to Mechelen. Once there, St Rumbold's Cathedral from the 13th century is worth a stop, and if you climb the tower you get 360-degree views over the city. The ride itself is nice with tree-lined country lanes, rivers and meadows along the way.

Mechelen to Antwerp
Today's cycling takes you through countryside toward Antwerp, passing through Duffel, Mortsel and Berchem. Stop at the Ursuline Institute to see the Art Nouveau winter garden. Fort Island in Mortsel is one of eight Brialmont Forts that were built to defend Antwerp, so if you're into that history it's worth a look. Once you reach Antwerp, the city has a reputation for beer, antiques, vintage fashion and diamonds if you want to explore those scenes.

- Day 4
Antwerp to Dendermonde
You'll follow the River Scheldt for most of today's route, passing fortifications as you go. Wissekerk Castle from the 10th century is on your path, then you cross by ferry to continue along the river dike. De Zilverreiger regional museum preserves knowledge about local crafts like basket weaving, river fishery, cooperage and flax processing, so it gives some context to the area you're cycling through.

Dendermonde to Ghent
Follow the Scheldt river banks as you cycle past Flemish villages and towns. Laarne Castle is a good break spot before you continue to Ghent. Once there, Ghent is known for its music scene with festivals and carillons throughout the city. The Old Town really transforms after dark with a kind of magical quality to the streets and canals, so plan to wander around by evening.

Ghent to Kortrijk

By the time you reach Kortrijk, you'll find it's got modern architecture mixed with centuries-old cultural heritage, kind of a blend between big city charm and village coziness.
