- SGShirley B· October 24th, 2023Antonio was a wonderful guide, taking care of the needs of our group with good humor, concern, and thoughtfulness. I so enjoyed my first dinner with our group when he arranged for an operatically trained singer at the restaurant to sing "Happy Birthday" to me!! Wow!! Herding a group of cats is no easy task, but Antonio did a masterful job of managing all of us, making sure we made our trains, checked in and out of our hotels, arrived at our various excursions on time, had occasional meals together, and enjoyed the magic of Italy. A few days longer to allow a little more time in some areas would be even better, and I hope Tour Radar can accomplish that! Wonderful experience!!Show moreExpat Explore Travel commented on this reviewThank you for both sharing your experience and granting us a 5-star rating! - KLKaren· October 10th, 2023I should have known better than to select a tour that I knew would be grueling in terms of the luggage hauling, and the break neck pace. Antonio was nice, he got us through a lot, but I feel he catered more to some than others. I am not a fan of favoritism. IF I ever do another of these tours, it will not be on a train.Show moreTrip date: September 2023
- Robert· October 10th, 2023Much better than anticipated! Great group of people that joined the tour. Outstanding tour leader, Antonio. Lots of walking but that was expected and what I wanted. Options for what to do in each location was a bonus that I took advantage of. Hotels were very nice and convenient.Show moreExpat Explore Travel commented on this reviewThank you so much for your feedback. - Tonya Peta· October 9th, 2023A very busy trip with lots to see. Good choices of outings. Dinners were wonderful, hotel tooms were great. Great value for money. Knowledgeable tour guide. - SJSonja· October 9th, 2023I had a fantastic time Antonio was a brilliant guide and made time for everyone . It was a bit fast pace for me at times but I put that down to my current fitness level ( Antonio was supportive of this when he was able) . Last meal in Milan was a huge let down regarding quality of food / service I would recommend changing this venue for future tours.Show moreExpat Explore Travel commented on this reviewThank you for sharing your experience and feedback with us. - AMAllan· May 21st, 2023This was an amazing experience largely as a result of our Tour Leader, Antonio. He joined us late on the first day in Rome having stepped in (and up) for the designated Tour Leader as they had to drop out last minute. He'd just finished another tour earlier that day and had flown to join us in Rome. Despite this he set about introducing himself to everyone and straight away we felt a connection and knew we were in safe hands. Over the next nine days he took great care of us from making sure I had no cheese on my pizza to looking out for our kids (who were also on the tour with us) when they tagged along on one of the excursions, from making sure we all made it to the train station on time and together to making extra arrangements for some of our group who had some mobility issues. At every turn Antonio was there, corralling, caring and communicating every day of the trip. Don't get me wrong, Italy and the sights are amazing but having a great Tour Leader like Antonio can make something special into something amazing and he certainly did that every day. The tour itself has some long days and early starts but because of that you get rewarded with amazing sights and sounds every day from Vatican and Colosseum in Rome, Pisa and Cinque Terra from Florence, Capri and Pompeii from Naples, Lake Como from Milan and beautiful Venice. A good balance (in our opinion) of busy days and free days. This tour is a great way to see most of what Italy has to offer with the comfort of rail travel (shorter journeys between locations, roomy seats and great views of the Italian countryside) and if you're lucky enough a great Tour Leader like Antonio to bring the whole thing together. All in all an amazing experience.Show moreTrip date: April 2023
- SBStacy· May 19th, 2023I loved seeing Italy and the time allowed for choosing your own activities. I feel like there needs to be improvement on communication and information. It was hard to make plans and purchase tickets as they’re no itinerary until a day before. Also, there is A LOT of pulling your suitcase around at train stations and to hotels. This would have been fine had it been more clearly communicated with the booking information. The people were great, the leader fun and competent and very helpful(he went out of his way to help people)Show moreTrip date: April 2023
- Anne· May 15th, 2023A fantastic way to travel in Italy , explored 5 cities in 9 days. Our tour guide was amazing super organised with itinerary and very nformative Highly recommended for anyone who likes a busy ,fun holiday.Show moreTrip date: April 2023
- DCDALIA· May 14th, 2023Great experience once in a life time. Excellent tour guide Antonio made it fun and enjoyable. I would highly recommend it to people in good shape who can walk clime and keep up with the pace. I am proud to say I am 80 years old and made it to the end. Loved it!Show moreTrip date: April 2023
- KCKaren· September 8th, 2022Great itinerary for a first time visitor. Only issue is that the tour would have better if it started and ended in the same city. There was at least one couple that was continuing on to another tour so they had to carry more luggage than was needed.Show moreTrip date: August 2022

Asked on July 3rd, 2025On this train tour, how do we get from the hotel to the train station and vice versa?
- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written July 2025
On Day 1, the tour will begin at the designated hotel in Rome, and from there, your Expat Explore tour leader will be with you every step of the way. This includes guiding the group from the hotel to the train station and vice versa at every stop on the tour. They'll help you navigate platforms, manage timings, and ensure a smooth and stress-free experience throughout your rail journey. You won't need to worry about finding your own way — everything will be arranged, and your tour leader will provide clear instructions at each stage of the trip.

Traveler•Written July 2025Will there be walking from the hotel to the train or are we transported somehow to the train station?
- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written July 2025
For the Italy Rail Express tour, there will indeed be some walking involved when moving from the hotel to the train station, especially in central areas where vehicles may have limited access. However, in certain cases where the distance is greater or when logistics require it, transportation may be arranged to help the group reach the train station. Your tour leader will always guide the group and assist with coordination to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Asked on May 25th, 2025I noticed that the itinerary I was emailed doesn't match the itinerary online. Both say Rome to Milan, but the online itinerary is different. It appears to have an extra day in Rome and says the tour ends in Venice. This is an issue since we would be flying into Rome and out of Milan.
- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written May 2025
Our Italy Rail Express Tour has recently had an update on the Itinerary. It now ends in Venice and not Milan anymore.

Alicia
Traveler•Written May 2025Your brochure continues to state that it ends in Milan (not Venice). It also contains a map that shows it ends in Milan. It's fine if you change the itinerary to end in Venice, but you have to change everything in the brochure as well or you're going to have a lot of very angry people in stuck in Venice who have to catch a flight back home from Milan.

- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written May 2025
Based on most travelers' preference, it would be FCO for Rome and VCE for Venice.

Traveler•Written January 2025Should we arrive a day early? I suppose it would depend on what flight times we can get When do we get notification of which hotel to book into?
- Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written January 2025
Arriving in Rome a day early is a smart idea, especially when coming from a long flight from Perth, Australia. This allows you to adjust to the time zone, recover from jet lag, and have a stress-free start to your Italy Rail Express Tour. The meeting time for this tour is at 15:00 pm. The provisional meeting point for this tour is at the Hotel Nord Nuova Roma. Fourteen days before departure, our customer service team will send you a tour leader announcement with the confirmed list of Hotels, itinerary, and meeting point.

Traveler•Written May 2024What will be the best time to travel to Italy avoiding crowd of people and very hot weather?

If you are looking to avoid crowds and hot weather, I would recommend travelling at the end of September or October as this would be the tail end of the high season
