- FEFiona· September 18th, 2024I had an amazing trip along The Silk Road overlanding with Madventure travelling from Istanbul to Beijing and then onto Chengdu and Tibet. This was a real adventure. The trip gave the group an amazing opportunity to travel along the Silk Road to places I always wanted to visit but would have found it difficult to as a solo traveller. We had an excellent driver, Martin and a great guide Rosanna. We also had local guides who shared lots of information. There were so many highlights, including camping next to the Great Wall of China, staying in hostels in Samarkand and Khiva in Uzbekistan, travelling along the Pamir Highway and staying in yurts in Kryghistan. Rosanna shared information about places of interest, tourist attractions at each of the places we stayed in. There were lots opportunities to visit UNESCO and religious sites in the historic cities where we stayed in hostels and hotels. We camped in the countryside next to lakes and up mountains where we were able to hike to waterfalls and monasteries. We received incredible hospitality from the people we met on ourvjourney including flowers from the locals in Iran. Our truck also attracted attention. This is a trip for people who enjoy camping, staying in hostels as well some amazing hotels in Chima. Expect to spend hours on the back of a truck but it so worth it. You need to be flexible and adaptable and enjoy camp cooking and meeting new people. There were times when we had to dig out the truck, help change the wheel or use other forms of transport when the truck breaks down. However the group always worked together Overlanding for me was a new experience where I cooked a camp meal in the rain in China and then slept in a yurt with twenty of my fellow travellers as it was too wet to pitch our tents ....and everyone loved the food and slept soundly. Character building. Early mornings and long journeys are part of the trip but I extended my trip and travelled on to Tibet which was well worth the visit. We drove over the Tibeaten Plateau on the 318 Highway and stayed in Lhasa and the Tibeaten Everest Base Camp. Overlanding allows budget travellers to visit the amazing towns, cities and UNESCO sites along The Silk Road.Show moreMadventure commented on this reviewHi Fiona, Thank you so much for your review of your silk roads adventure, and thanks for the pictures as well. - AIAmrit· August 17th, 2024Certainly the best overlanding experience of my life. There's complete bonhomie amongst the group members and ever smiling, exuberant Rosanna was always there to cheer us up. No words for Martin, he excellently controlled the vehicle through very dangerous stretches, I give him 20 out of 10 marks! Thank you, Rosanna, Vee, Joy, Jude, Fiona, George, Brian, Zach and Martin for making it a memorable trip. God Bless you all!Show moreMadventure commented on this reviewHi Amrit, Thank you so much for your review - I am soooo pleased you had such an amazing experience with us. - VLVeronica· August 16th, 2024Fantastic trip - right from the beginning when I signed up for it! The itinerary was realistic and covered everything I wanted to do, the guides/documents answered all my questions, and some, and the overall organization has been spot on. The trip itself was more than I could expect. Rosanna and Martin made sure we were always in the loop on any changes or delays, the accommodation was amaaaazing, and I couldn't have asked for more in terms of the trip and my expectations of it. Definitely recommend Madventure!!Show moreMadventure commented on this reviewHi Veronica, Thank you so much for your lovely review, I'm pleased to hear you had such an amazing trip - I had a great time seeing all of the pictures from your group, whilst I was in the office. Asked on November 14th, 2024Just a few quick questions about the China to Nepal trip. I'm a bad sleeper, so can I book a single room? How much to budget each night for a single room? I'm looking at the July 2025 trip, I'm Australian, female 54. Is it possible to get an age range of other travelers? Might feel awkward if entire group is twenty year olds. Does your company organize the letter to enter Tibet?
- MadventureOperator•Written November 2024
It is often possible to upgrade to a single room at hostel or hotel. Room cost varies between $20-$30 USD. Our trips have mixed ages, typically mid 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's. At 54, you are in the exact right age group. We take care of all paperwork to enter Tibet. You will apply for China visa and we add you to Tibet permits.

Traveler•Written November 2024You guys only run this trip once a year. I'm planning to book in January. Is there a possibility you'll be fully booked by then?

Asked on March 4th, 20241. Is your overland truck like the one that Dragoman used for South America? I read that your company has took over Dragoman. 2. Are you equipped and will provide oxygen for travellers during the road trip to Tibet? 3. I am Canadian and already have a valid 10 years China visa on my passport. Would you be providing any other necessary permits for Tibet areas? 4. What would the temperature ranges for the places we travel in this trip? 5. I saw this trip in TourRadar, so the price is in Canadian dollars?
- MadventureOperator•Written March 2024
1 - Yes, the plan will be that you'll be on a lovely Dragoman truck :)
2 - Regarding the oxygen, yes, we will provide oxygen, but this is subject to availability and not guaranteed
3 - If you already have a visa for China, that's great!! All we ask is that you get your visa for China, and we arrange the permits for Tibet. Please just ensure the visa is still valid.
4 - Expect very cold temperatures at night - and also, due to the remoteness of some of the locations and basicness of the lodgings, there may not be heating.
5 - Regarding pricing, Tour Radar deals with the pricing side of things - we just list the tour in GBP and USD - so I'm not sure if you're looking at a screen with an automatic conversion to CAD.
