- Day 1
Paro
You'll arrive in Bhutan with those dramatic Himalayan views unfolding as you descend. Your guide meets you at the airport for the transfer to your hotel. If there's time before evening, you can stop by Kyichu Lhakhang temple and check out Paro Dzong before heading to Thimphu. The drive gives you your first real sense of the landscape and local life.

Thimphu to Punakha
This morning you'll explore Thimphu, the capital. The itinerary includes the Late King's Memorial Chorten, the National Library, and Folk Heritage Museum. Then you'll walk through a handmade paper factory and check out the school of arts and crafts, plus the Gold and Silver Smiths workshops and local handicraft centers. After lunch, you'll drive toward Punakha with a tea break at Dochu La (3,100 meters/10,170 feet), where the Himalayan views are really something from that elevation.

Punakha to Phobjikha Valley to Wangdiphodrang
You'll start by visiting Punakha Dzong, one of the country's most important buildings from 1636. Then it's on to Phobjikha Valley, a scenic glacial valley where Black Neck Cranes winter here after migrating from central Asia. The valley itself is worth wandering around, and you'll visit Gangtey Monastery, which is Bhutan's only Nyingmapa monastery. By evening you'll head to Wangdiphodrang for the night.

Wangdiphodrang to Paro
The drive back to Paro takes you along winding mountain roads. Once there, you'll see Bhutan's national museum, which is set in a historic watchtower overlooking Paro Dzong and holds Bhutanese treasures, armor, textiles, and thangkha paintings. You'll also see Drukgyel Dzong with its views of Mount Jumolhari, then Rinpung Dzong and a typical Bhutanese farm house to get a sense of how people actually live.

Paro
This is the hike to Taktsang, or Tiger's Nest Monastery, perched on a cliff about 900 meters above Paro Valley. The half-day excursion offers views that make the trek worthwhile. After lunch, you can visit other important sites you might not have completed on previous days, rounding out your experience.

Paro Departure
