This tour reignited my love of travel. As a solo female traveler in the under-40 crowd, I knew I’d be among mostly retirees — and I wasn’t sure what to expect. But this journey turned out to be something truly special, largely thanks to our incredible Tour Director, Areti, and our driver, João (pronounced Jo-Wow, which he indeed was!). Areti has a rare gift: she finds the magic in everything. With grace, intelligence, and genuine passion, she brought history to life in a way that made every destination feel deeply personal and vivid. Her storytelling, calm leadership, and warmth created an atmosphere where every traveler felt seen and cared for. She’s not just a guide — she’s a cultural ambassador and a historical guru with a deeply human touch. João was the perfect counterpart — effortlessly maneuvering a massive coach through narrow roads, mountain curves, and bustling cities with impressive skill. He was friendly, professional, and always made sure we were safe and comfortable. Together, Areti and João made the perfect team — bringing joy, calm, and competence to every mile of the journey. The itinerary was full of rich, layered experiences: from the intricate Moorish tiles and stunning architecture to the vibrant gardens of the Alhambra (even just seeing the gardens was a dream) and the explosion of colorful flowers everywhere we went. We sampled the famous pastéis de nata (custard tarts) in Portugal, snacked on those delightful orange-sweet crackers, and wandered through plazas that echoed with history. It’s worth noting that while this is a coach tour, some sections can be quite physically demanding — extended walking, cobblestone streets, and hilly terrain were common, especially in historic areas. That said, our local guides were wonderful — always kind, full of tips, and made an effort to take breaks when needed. Personally, I enjoyed the pace; I usually lean toward more active, faster-paced trips, so this was a refreshing and more relaxed change for me. Would I recommend this tour? Absolutely — and I’d even bring my parents on it. It’s that well-organized, enriching, and thoughtful. Whether you’re a first-timer in Iberia or returning for more, Treasures of Spain and Portugal with Trafalgar offers a perfect mix of culture, history, food, and scenery — especially if you’re lucky enough to be guided by Areti and João. They made this more than a tour — they made it a memory I’ll carry with me for a lifetime.

Anna Forbes, our tour Director, was the best guide I've ever experienced on any tour ever! She was articulate about every detail of the trip from providing information to her consistent, wonderful personality and kindness!
