- MSMark· May 14th, 2023Go For It! A truly amazing Active Adventure!Show moreTrip date: April 2023
- DDavidWard· May 2nd, 2022Well - this is a really hard review to write. To be honest, I have had three awesome trips with Active (Rimu - NZ, Condor - Patagonia, Jaguar - Peru). But, I have also had four of my last five trips cancelled by Active. One in 2018 because not enough people signed up, 2020 was Covid, 2021 was 2020 trip that they rescheduled and then cancelled and 2022 because not enough people again. And, that's the problem. They schedule too many trips and then they don't get enough people and they cancel. Again and again. Active doesn't seem to learn. And for me, the cancellations have personally cost me over $2,500. You lose your air fare, you lose hotel reservation money, and if you plan any activities before/after your Active trip - you lose those, too. And travel insurance is worthless - they don't cover cancellation if the operator cancels unless you buy the most expensive travel insurance out there. But what is the point of paying $1,000 for travel insurance to get $1,200 back? You are still out $1,000. I guess, if you can just go on a 2-week trip at the spur of the moment, or if you are going to go with four other people - Active will work for you. But, if you are a planner like me - BEWARE. Seems that the odds of going on your Active trip are not good. The people at Active have always been friendly and helpful - but I just can't recommend them when they cancel SOOOO many trips. I hope you have better luck than I have had - but, don't forget "I told you so."Show moreTrip date: April 2021
- JCJacqueline· March 11th, 2022The guides were terrific, very educational and entertaining. We loved the ability to stay at 4 of the different islands, and have an ocean view from every room! We got to see and do so much! I was never board, snorkeling, biking, watching and learning about the animals and environment, hiking, kayaking, etc…. It was great that the agenda was flexible. Having the agenda changed to enable us to be able to participate in all activities instead of having to pick and choose was fantastic! We were excited to find out we could snorkel the tuneles and hike the volcano. The food was fantastic, they were able to accommodate my gluten allergy every we went. All the local restaurants we very good at accommodating allergies as well as giving us a fantastic variety of local delicious foods. All in all it was an amazing trip that I definitely recommend!Show moreActive Adventures commented on this reviewHi Jacqueline, It's so great to hear you had a wonderful time on your trip. - AKristine· October 26th, 2014This trip was one of my best ever! Our group of 9 plus our 'super plan' guide, Pepo, made for great wildlife adventures and smooth travels for all. I loved all the Islands and the snorkeling was truly special,. Swimming with sea lions and sea turtles was an 'active adventure' never to be forgotten! And those land tortoises! Wow! So pleased that they are protected and loved. They gave an 'active adventure' validation to 'slow as a turtle'. Photos were easy! And Pepo was that one in a million, over the top, knowledgeable and organized guide. Thanks for a special and memorable journey.Show moreTrip date: October 2014
- AVince· March 8th, 2015Pepo was a fantastic guide. Having grown up and living with his family on the islands, he was a wealth of information on the Galapagos. Snorkeling was fantastic. Weather was perfect. Organization was top notch. My second trip with Active Adventures was equally as awesome as the Peru trip last year.Show moreTrip date: July 2015
- AJacqueline· May 8th, 2015The Tortuga trip was fantastic! Everything was organised with great attention to detail. The guide was very knowledgable and approachable. To visit the Galapagos was amazing: the turtles, tortoises, iguanas, and especially the sea lions and penguins were so nice to see in nature! The hotels were nice and mostly right at the beach. I would definetely recommend this trip to anyone!Show moreTrip date: July 2015
- AGordon· September 8th, 2015Didn't know what to expect, being so busy until we left for our trip. We were amazed with the Galapagos and all aspects of our trip there. Food, lodging were much better than expected. Most impressive was our guide, Pepo, who seemed to anticipate our every need. We will never forgett this adventure!Show moreTrip date: July 2015

- ADavid· July 4th, 2017Everything ran absolutely as seamlessly as possible, Congrats to the Active Adventures team. The weather was perfect. Our guide, Pepo was terrific. He was attentive to all of our needs and safety, and fielded every question with depth of knowledge and intelligence. As a native of the Island he is sensitive and cares deeply about their well being and continuance. This showed through in all his words and actions. He displayed kindness and humor and was generally just a great traveling companion. I had read much before my trip and was not let down by what the Islands had to offer. The trip as a whole offered a quite perfect blend of activities, relaxation and unique new experiences. All the accommodations were at least just fine, a couple quite splendid. The food was delicious (fishatarian) and most bountiful. My only wish is that the airline scheduling involving arrival and then transfers from Quito to the Island worked out a little more smoothly. This is not a criticism of Active Adventures, but more of the airlines. So the bookend of the trip were not nearly the fun of the trip itself.Show moreTrip date: February 2017
- ANancy· January 3rd, 2019What a fantastic trip! Everything that was promised was delivered. All the transfers took place without a hitch and all the people involved were fantastic. From Lenny in Quito to Zambo on the islands and all the others who helped in various ways from hauling luggage to driving the boat, they were all top notch. I knew that there would be wildlife but I didn't expect to have to watch where I was walking for fear of stepping on a lizard! We even got a pod of dolphins on our first boat transfer between the islands. I fell in love with the sea lions. So many babies, too. The food was always plentiful and tasty and several of the meals were downright great. My only complaint is the air was too hot and the water too cool, but that is my personal issue. Didn't stop me from learning how to snorkel. I didn't even freak out when we saw sharks right below us.Show moreTrip date: August 2019

Jason
Asked on May 7th, 2024Since I'm booking this quite late, I wanted to check that there are enough people already booked to run the tour before I signed up.
- Active AdventuresOperator•Written May 2024
Yes, this date is actually very full but we may still be able to accommodate you - As you're traveling solo, and the departure is so soon, you would be required to add on a single supplement to be in your own room, as there isn't another solo traveler available to share the room with you.
- J
Jason
Traveler•Written May 2024How much is the single supplement for this trip?

Allan
Asked on December 26th, 2022Is there a single supplement for this trip? Also, if you select the dive option, is there a dive everyday or the trip?
- Active AdventuresOperator•Written January 2023
The single supplement cost for this tour is US$1,199 per person. For diving, we have scheduled diving opportunities on days 3 and 4. The other days on our itinerary are quite busy and difficult to fit additional diving days in, however we'll be snorkelling on day 7 and if there is free time on the trip you can ask your guides to see if they fit in another diving day for you.

Traveler•Written December 2022Can you customize the trip for us. For example we do not the kicker rock snorkeling and the hike to volcano. Can we replace by day trip to north Seymour island and day trip to South plaza and Santa Fe.
- Active AdventuresOperator•Written December 2022
For solo travellers, there are two options available. The solo can choose to share with another solo traveller for no additional costs. if they would like to upgrade to a single room for the duration of the trip this can be purchased for US$1199. I can check availability for you, what departure date are you interested in?
- Active AdventuresOperator•Written December 2022
All guests travelling with us need to bring a total of $120USD cash with them to cover the cost of the INGALA card and Galapagos entrance fee. This will be paid at the airport.

Asked on September 21st, 2022Is there any availability for one person? The purpose of this trip for me is to photograph the Wild Life in Galapagos. Unfortunately I do not do any snorkeling or diving. Do you have any other alternatives during these times?
- Active AdventuresOperator•Written September 2022
This is one of the most flexible trips we run and there are many different activities we can offer if you aren't keen on snorkelling or diving. Many of our travellers love photography and our guides will be able to direct you to various shooting locations around the islands depending on what wildlife you're interested in photographing. Our guides for this tour have worked with National Geographic while filming various documentaries in the area so I would recommend having a chat with them because they are very knowledgeable.

Traveler•Written September 2022Do you have a photo of the boat and accommodation on board or on the island? Is the price for single? What alternative programs can be arranged to replace those of snorkeling/diving as well as canoeing etc as I am more for photography on wildlife?
- Active AdventuresOperator•Written September 2022
All accommodation will be provided on land and we'll only be using the boat to travel from one location to the next. If you are interested in upgrading your rooming to a single room for the duration of the tour the additional cost is US$1199. Additional activities include nearby hikes, wildlife viewing, exploring beaches and many others. I recommend speaking with the guide the night before to find out what is available.

All of our hiking distances are completely flexible. We have a minimum of two guides per trip and while hiking we'll have one guide leading the group and another in the back ensuring no one gets split up. On our longer hikes, we encourage you to participate if you would like to stop at any point our guide team will take care of you.
