- Martha· January 20th, 2024The hikes and biking tours were fantastic. The hotels and restaurants were all very good. And the guides were amazing!!!Show moreTrip date: December 2023
- DPDuane· May 7th, 2023Amazing experience and fortunate to have some of the bluest clear skies to truly appreciate the majesty of the scenery. We were exceptionally fortunate with the weather, and even those rainy days could not detract from our hikes through the forests and glacial landscapes, which were spectacular. Couldn't fault our guides who were all wonderful to be around, and who ensured our adventure was educational, fun, and safe. Thanks to all who made this bucket list a truly wonderful and memorable experience.Show moreTrip date: April 2023
- GGregForbes· February 2nd, 2022We had booked a 2 week Patagonia hiking tour with Active Adventures for the beginning of January 2022. With the onset of the Omicron Covid virus, our federal government issued a travel advisory against international travel and we were forced to cancel our travel arrangements. Active Adventures retained 100% of our trip fee and were unwilling to refund any of the funds paid due to the unforeseen world events. Beware before sending final payment!Show moreActive Adventures commented on this reviewHi Greg, We want to set the record straight so other travellers aren't misled by your comments. You were booked to travel along with your partner and 4 other companions. You decided to cancel your travel plans because you were concerned about traveling... Show moreTrip date: January 2022
- AWaltero· February 22nd, 2019Our trip was my 12th expedition to fund raise for causes to support youth in southern Indiana USA. Active Adventures staff and guides proved a quality partner for me, with a prime location. I commend the organization and staff without reservation. I was well pleased from start to finish. A hoped for bonus was a remarkable cast of characters whom I enjoyed as crew, and as guides. I will have a suggestion or two, as you wish. Not many, though. Feel free to use my name - Waltero Glover. This was one if not the most awesome international expedition I have been on since beginning them at age 59 begininng with Everest in Nepal. My goal became to climb the Seven Summits. My quest ended after five of the Seven. After suffering broken ribs in a fall on Mount Rainier while training for Antarctica and Alaska that led to open heart surgery, I decided that going longer, as opposed to higher, would better serve me. Thus came El Camino across Spain, Rainbow Mountain in Peru, England Coast to Coast, and then this wonderful trip via Active Adventures. Along the way almost $150,000- has been raised to support children, particularly to combat youth obesity and promote wellness.Show moreTrip date: January 2019
- ASheldon· March 12th, 2016Great trip. Been on several previous trips with other companies; this one was comparable. Food at restaurants was usually very good but bland at the refugios. Got to try out my paltry Spanish. Hiking with full packs not as burdensome as I anticipated. Scenery great. Rugged hikes but good trails. Cynthia and Jem were great guides. Well planned activities.Show moreTrip date: November 2016
- AJames· October 12th, 2016The ""W"" was one of the toughest hikes we've undertaken because of straight line steep grades and rocky trails. But when we finished we felt like we had met the challenge and all our pre-trip workouts were worth it. Our guide, Cahit, was fantastic - knowledgeable, outgoing and optimistic. The adding of mountain biking and kayaking was a nice touch!Show moreTrip date: November 2016
- AColleen· October 12th, 2016This was clearly one of the more spectacular trips we've taken because of the mountains, glaciers and beautiful weather. But it was a tough one. The W segment was a bit crowded so be ready to share a lot of the trail with a lot of people, especially at the refugios.Show moreTrip date: November 2016
- AMichael· December 17th, 2016A wonderful trip with great views and excellent hiking. Our guides really took care of us and everything was handled beautifully. The accommodations and food were first rate. Loved the trip.Show moreTrip date: November 2016
- ADavid· December 24th, 2016There are too many highlights to list them all, but seeing a puma hunt guanaco is a near tie with the unscheduled glacier river crossing. Had we not been with Active Adventures, we would not have been able to complete the 'W' trek, due to a downed bridge and shady Chilean politics. We were one of only four groups able to complete the full 'W' due to the 'puente malo' and our guides Arturo and Cem were super-starts getting the entire group across the river (x3)! Words can't describe how amazing the trip was and a huge part of that was how Active arranged it and adapted to the situations on the ground. I would definitely go on any of their other trips.Show moreTrip date: April 2016
- ASophia· December 29th, 2016Patagonia Chile and Argentina was my first visit to South America and the adventures were definitely everything I expected. My adventures with Cynthia and Active far exceeded everything I expected. Cynthia was an exceptional tour leader, full of knowledge, wit and charming kindness. She was attentive to every group member's needs and ensured that everyone was safe and well looked after. Filled with humour and wit, Cynthia is a highly efficient tour leader who is organized and passionate about leading groups. She always enjoyed being in the outdoors and spoke with excitement and knowledge about the highlights on the trip. Cynthia was always friendly, down to earth and very funny. The passion that she has for what she does helped to invigorate our group with a high and positive energy. The group that we had was an awesome group that came together and became like a small family in the short two weeks we spent together. My overall experience was more enriched because the group gelled and genuinely enjoyed one another's company. I spent two amazing weeks trekking Patagonia Chile and Argentina, experiencing some of nature's greatest landscapes. I'm grateful to have experienced it with the group we had, and for Cynthia, for helping to make a series of grand and treasured memories. I'll never forget my time in Patagonia. The tour was top-notch, greatly organized and run with efficiency. Thank you. A round of applause, Active!Show moreTrip date: November 2016

Asked on May 25th, 2024how many miles/hours involves sitting in a van travelling?
- Active AdventuresOperator•Written May 2024
We do not spend much time at all in the vans traveling on this trip, the longest van ride is on day 8 when we travel to El Calafate - The drive time is only around 4 hours, but it can be longer with crossing the border to Argentina. We travel from El Calafate to El Chalten and back, which is around 3 hours, but as you can see on the itinerary, we stay in one place for multiple nights before traveling in the van again.

Traveler•Written May 20241. We are planning to go on the tour starting in October (October 20 - November 2nd). We were wondering what gear we needed - do you have a list? We were not sure how rainy it would be? 2. Is the tour Oct 20 - Nov 2nd still available 3. Since there is four people - what is the cost differential to do a private tour (just wondering). 4. When we stay at Refugios - are they dorm rooms? Will we know in advance whether they are full and we will be staying in a tent set up by the Refugio.
- Active AdventuresOperator•Written May 2024
For a packing list: [link]. Yes, we have space for four on the October 20, 2024 departure - We would only look at a private tour if there was a minimum of 8 travelers. Yes, it's dorm style at the refugios, but it's very rare that we'd have to use the tents - if we do, we would find out at the time, but again, it's not something that happens often, especially in October.

Traveler•Written June 2024is there an extra charge for singles not sharing a room? We plan to do option A and stay in Refugios. Also could you direct me to the policy if someone drops out and we have paid for trip etc.
- Active AdventuresOperator•Written June 2024
If you wish to add a single supplement to have your own room, it would be $1999 however for the W-Trek Hike and W-Trek Experience portions of the trip (Days 3 – 7) are not included as no single rooms are available in the refugio's/lodges, and the single supplement price takes this into account. Cancelation 91 days before trip departure: Full trip payment will be refunded, less your deposit. Cancelation 90-61 days before trip departure: 50% of your trip payment will be refunded. Cancelation 60-0 days before trip departure: No refund applies. We do still have space for four on the October 20, 2024 departure.
