The Kauri trip was great, and in true Active Adventures fashion, the guides were awesome. We were lucky when it came to the weather, and our guides pulled no punches in letting us know what to pack and what to expect if the worst happened. They also did not hesitate to make a decision when the 'bad weather' never came urging us to press on and continue the adventure.

This was truly the trip I will never forget and the people that I shall always cherish in the fact that I was able to meet them and learn something of their lives. Sally and Lauren were great not just as tour guides but as hosts and ambassadors of a spectacular nation. I hope to return soon if only to attempt to replay the adventures and experiences of the first. Many thanks to Lauren and Sally.

We enjoyed the beautiful hikes, waterfalls, geysers, culture, lodges and landscape. The guides were first class and the lodging was first class! It was unfortunate that our flights were delayed getting into New Zealand so we missed the first two days of our trip but the management, staff and guides worked together to help us meet up with the rest of the group and enjoy the remainder of the vacation.

I am worried that this trip is too strenuous for a 70 year old with aging problematic knees. What would happen if I'm in the middle of a hike, etc. And cannot finish day out? Would I just have to rely on my travel insurance to get me out?

While this trip does have some big hiking days, almost all of the hikes can be adjusted to be shorter - Our guides are amazing at providing options where available for all levels. Every activity is completely optional so if there was something that you weren't feeling up to you could take a break and sit out. This is an active trip, so a good level of fitness is helpful and will make the trip more enjoyable for you!

    • Active AdventuresOperatorWritten February 2023

On this tour, we don't hike along steep cliffs and in areas that have viewpoints, these include handrails and fencing to keep everyone safe. Many of our travellers have a fear of heights and our guides will prepare guests for the upcoming hikes so they feel safe and aware of what to expect while out on the trail. For guests that are afraid of heights, this trip is a good choice because this consists more of coastal hikes without steep drop offs.

We have changed our plans. We had worked out an extensive three month holiday covering North and South New Zealand together with a "Big Tour", starting from Singapore / Perth. We have found we face a mountain with the cost of flights. So we are now visiting The Canaries! Obviously next year we will have to book earlier if we want to visit New Zealand/ Australia.
