Itinerary
- Day 1
St. Wolfgang
You'll arrive in St. Wolfgang, a lakeside village in the Salzkammergut that becomes your base for the week. This is where everything starts, and you'll get settled before the hiking and lake exploration begins. The area sits right between mountains and water, so there's plenty to see over the coming days.

- Day 2
St. Gilgen
Start the day with a scenic trail walk toward Falkenstein rock wall, where lake views open up as you go higher. From there, continue into St. Gilgen, a small village connected to Mozart's family history. The return trip takes you across the water by boat, so you'll get a different perspective of the landscape you just walked through.

- Day 3
Strobl - Bad Ischl
Head out on the Saddle walk from St. Wolfgang toward Lake Schwarzensee, stopping at Lore's lake cabin along the way for homemade snacks. After that, you'll move through Wirer gorge and walk along Bürgstein before reaching Strobl's lake promenade. A coach then takes you to Bad Ischl, the former Imperial summer residence where you'll stay the night.

- Day 4
Bad Ischl
This day is yours to shape. Walk through Bad Ischl and see the Imperial Villa where Emperor Franz Josef and Elisabeth of Bavaria got engaged. Stop by Café Zauner for cakes and coffee, or if you'd rather relax, the Salzkammergut thermal baths have warm brine pools perfect for easing tired muscles after the past few days of hiking.

Bad Goisern - Hallstatt
Follow the brine pipeline trail heading out from Bad Ischl toward Bad Goisern, passing through Kaltenbachau, which was once a retreat for Imperial guests. You'll reach Bad Goisern by afternoon, then take a train into Hallstatt. If you want more challenge, there's an option to hike the Eternal Wall mountain trail for higher elevation and different views.

- Day 6
Hallstatt
Continue on the brine pipeline trail to Hallstatt's salt mountain, where salt mining goes back to Celtic times. You can see the lake and the Dachstein massif from various points along the way. The day includes time in the salt mine itself, climbing Rudolf's tower, and checking out the ancient excavation sites that tell the region's mining history.

- Day 7
St. Wolfgang
Take a train back toward Bad Ischl, then walk the Sissi-Path, a quieter route that leads to tiny Lake Nussensee. From there, follow the Ischl River back toward Lake Wolfgangsee, walking through the Blinklingmoos nature reserve. You'll reach Gschwendt by late afternoon, then head back to St. Wolfgang by ship to end the hiking week.

This is your departure day, though you can arrange to stay longer in the Salzkammergut if you'd like. Either way, you'll leave with a solid sense of how the region connects water, mountains, and history across hiking trails and boat routes.
