Itinerary

Arrival in Saly
You'll touch down at Blaise Diagne International Airport in Diass and handle the arrival paperwork. After that, it's a transfer to your hotel in Saly where you'll settle in for the night.

Saly to Joal to Fadiouth to Toubacouta
Following breakfast, you'll head to Joal, the birthplace of Senegal's first president Leopold Senghor. A wooden bridge takes you across to Fadiouth, an island built from shells with its own unique character. Then it's on to Toubacouta in the Saloum region, driving through local villages and Kaolack, a former French colonial trading hub. You'll check into a hotel with views overlooking the Saloum River.

Saloum Delta
A motorized canoe moves you through the mangrove creeks toward Sipo island where the Sine and Saloum rivers meet. The island has kept much of its traditional character and cultural identity intact. You'll walk through the village and meet the Queen of Sipo, then head back to the hotel for lunch. The afternoon leaves time to rest and relax before dinner back at the hotel.

Toubacouta to Ziguinchor
Leaving the Sine Saloum behind, you'll drive through Sahelian landscape dotted with ancient baobab trees. As you approach Gambia, the vegetation gets greener and lusher. You'll cross the Gambia River by its large bridge and enter the Casamance region with its distinctive villages of mud and straw. In Ziguinchor, you can walk the Creole-flavored streets and visit Saint Maure's market to see handicrafts brought in from neighboring Guinea Bissau.

Ziguinchor to Elinkine to Carabane Island
You're heading to Elinkine and will stop at several Diola tribe villages including Edioungou and Oussouye along the route. Tribal kings still govern small kingdoms throughout this area. The landscape here shows the diverse Casamance flora with rice fields and palm trees mixed together. Later you'll reach Elinkine to watch fishermen bring in their catch. From there, a boat takes you to Carabane Island, a former major commercial center dating back to colonial times. You can walk through the cemetery and see church remains while spending time with local residents.

Carabane Island to Djiboma to Cap Skirring
After breakfast, a motorized canoe heads to Djiboma, a special island where just one family lives. You'll see the women's vegetable garden and depending on the season, might observe oyster farming and palm wine production. Back on Carabane Island, lunch is waiting for you. Then a dugout canoe takes you to Elinkine before a car transfer to Cap Skirring, where you'll stay at a beachfront hotel.

Diembering
After breakfast, you'll bike through tropical forest heading to Diembering village. There you'll visit an animist village and meet local people, seeing the massive ancient fromagers trees where sacrifices happened historically. The Eco Park offers a chance to see many different tree species. You'll return to Cap Skirring for a picnic lunch, then the afternoon is yours to spend on the beach. If interested, Cap Skirring has evening exploration available.

Cap Skirring
The day is free to enjoy Cap Skirring's beach at your own pace. If you want activities, a walk to Kabrousse village is an option. Several optional excursions are possible, including trips to the island of birds.

Cap Skirring to Dakar
After breakfast, you'll leave Cap Skirring by car toward Ziguinchor. You'll cross the Gambia River again before heading to Dakar, Senegal's capital. Once you arrive, you'll go to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Landmarks/POIs Dakar - Day 10
Goree Island - Dakar
After breakfast, you'll head to Dakar harbor and take a ferry to Goree Island, a historic spot where Portuguese, English, Dutch, and French powers all fought for control. Hundreds of thousands of enslaved people were deported from this island. You'll visit the Slave House with its door opening directly to the ocean, a difficult but important reminder of slavery's cruelty. Back in Dakar, a city tour shows you colonial architecture from when it was the capital of French Africa. From there, a transfer takes you to the airport for departure.
