Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Paro
You'll land at Paro airport where the visa stamp goes directly into your passport. Your guide meets you at arrivals and drives you to a 3-star hotel in Paro for the night. It's a straightforward arrival, giving you time to settle in and adjust to the altitude and local time.

- Day 2
Paro to Jele Dzong
After breakfast, you'll drive to the National Museum which sits at 2,487m/8,160ft. From there the trek starts through apple orchards and pine forests as you climb toward Jele Dzong, a ruined fortress with a Buddhist temple at 3,490m/11,450ft. The views of Paro valley and Mt. Jomolhari open up as you gain elevation. You'll camp overnight at 3,480m/11,415ft, so bring layers for the cooler temperature.

Jele Dzong to Jangchulakha
The day involves walking through dense alpine forests with rhododendrons mixed in, following a gradual up-and-down trail. You might see yak herders working and pheasants in the undergrowth, while Mt. Jomolhari and surrounding snow peaks stay visible. By late afternoon you reach Jangchulakha at 3,780m/12,402ft, a yak grazing pasture where the full Himalayan range spreads out. You'll camp here overnight among the herds.

Landmarks Mt. Jomolhari - Day 4
Jangchulakha to Jimilang Tsho Lake
Starting along the ridge through juniper and rhododendron, you'll look down into the Thimphu and Paro valleys below. After a brief climb comes a steeper descent to Jimilang Tsho Lake at 3,880m/12,730ft, known locally for its massive trout. The night's camp sits near the water with Jichu Drake peak (6,989m/22,929ft) visible, a mountain sacred in Bhutanese tradition. The temperature drops noticeably at this elevation so prepare accordingly.

Jimilang Tsho Lake to Yak Grazing Pasture
You'll trek through rhododendron forest past Janye Tsho Lake and pass several yak herder camps along the way. The trail has gentle ups and downs that keep things interesting, and views of the Himalayas and deep valleys don't let up. Simkota Tsho Lake sits visible from the ridge at 4,110m/13,485ft. The overnight camp is again in a yak pasture at similar elevation, so nights remain quite cold.

Yak Grazing Pasture to Paro
This day starts with steady climbing to a saddle at 4,150m/13,615ft where Mt. Gangkar Puensum and other major peaks come into view. You'll cross Phume La Pass at 4,210m/13,812ft, where prayer flags mark the spot and Thimphu valley shows below. After that, the route descends through blue pine and juniper forests to Sangaygang hill. From there it's a drive back to Paro where you'll spend the final night before heading home.

- Day 7
Departure from Paro
After breakfast you'll head to Paro Airport for your return flight to Kathmandu or wherever your onward journey takes you. The trek concludes here, and you leave with the experience of high-altitude hiking through some of the Himalayas' most remote terrain and pristine forests.
