- Nimpa· June 17th, 2024The itinerary was good. But could have been better if I had seen more wildlife. I can’t fault the Tour Company though, I was told due to a dry season. Thank you, Alick (driver) and Hest (guide) for a wonderful tour. Alick took great care in driving, especially the gravel road, also called African Massage:) Hest was very knowledgeable and informative in explaining about the animals, trees, plants. At times I was amazed at the amount of her knowledge, especially with the animals. I know more now than before the tour started. Alick and Hest worked great as a team. At times(on the road) when we see an animal or a special tree, Alick would pull over and stop, and Hest would give information about it. Overall, it was a good tour.Show moreLochinvar Safaris commented on this reviewWooho......it has been long since we had a guest like you Nimpa! - JWJacqueline· October 16th, 2022We spent 10 days with Mark and Doreen, being the only guests on this tour. We had very positive, but also quite some negative experiences on the tour. The positive aspects were that in general we had a fun and positive vibe with Mark and Doreen. They are very nice and interested and really wanted to show us a lot. They gave us a good and deep insight in Zambian history, culture and also it was possible to talk about current politics and the future of the country. Once we left Livingstone for 7 days we almost always were the only tourists in Zambian culture, a very authentic experience! We were able to influence the program as we were the only 2 guests, so we spontaneously were able to visit a local clinic and go to church together, which was very nice. Whenever we had complaints, the guides were open to talk about it and to improve within their given possibilities. Usually breakfast and dinner were really good and we tried lots of local food. Doreen also taught us how to cook the local food. The national parks we visited were nice, especially the stay at Mwamfushi Safari Lodge. Unfortunately we did not see very many animals, as both parks we visited (Kafue and Lochinvar) have suffered a lot of poaching. But we saw some. On the negative side we would like to mention a few things. First of all it is a 10 day tour, as day 1 and 12 do not really have a programm. We drove in a small car which was not suited for going on dirt roads, and we drove on many dirt roads, many times touching the ground with the bottom of the car. It also broke once and needed to be fixed, which meant we stayed in the next village for an hour or so. The program promises many game drives and a big safari experience, which is not fulfilled at all. 'Safari' to our tourguides was going in our small car fully packed with 5 people, sometimes with guides who were not really skilled and even told wrong information at times. We expected an open vehicle, 4-wheel drive car with a guide who would be able to speak proper English and answer our questions. In the beginning we stuck to the programm, but in the middle/end of the tour they just forgot a whole day (which promised game drive the whole day). We argued about it and as a replacement agreed on going to a real safari on the last day in the Mosi-oa-Tunya Nationalpark, which was very nice, even though did not replace the whole promised activities. When we were in Kafue National Park the program promised to go on a walking safari or any other activity, which was not organised by the guides, so we again had to speak about it and in the end we organised the whole afternoon programm by ourselves and also paid by ourselves. About meals/cooking: since we were the only two guests we offered to help on occasion to prepare meals. At one point we felt like it was expected from us to take care/organise certain meals. Very unprofessional. The female guest was often expected to help out and prepare meals with the female guide, one day we were told to prepare breakfast and when we asked for the plan for lunch, the tourguide said the girls (so female guide and female guest) were supposed to prepare lunch as well while the guys relax as it is performed in African culture. We then spoke out and explained, that paying 200 Dollars per day we were not going to prepare and plan the majority of the meals, especially not women only. They understood and after that the cooking/meal preparing was performed by the guide and worked out a lot better. In the beginning we had skipped lunch many times as we were in the car and were offered cookies instead. Alltogether we would probably not decide to go on this tour again. We think that they definitely need to improve the safari experience (open vehicle, 4wd, skilled guide), stick to the program and communicate better if activities cannot happen as promised.Show moreLochinvar Safaris commented on this reviewWe sincerely appreciate for your time in providing us with an in-depth analysis of the 12 days Mwezi Safari tour you Jacqui and partner recently undertake with us. (i). Some parts of the Kafue National Park have a lot of Tsetse flies. However, other than the irritating sting, they will not transmit any sleeping sickness diseases to you. Please come with the strongest insect spray to protect yourself against insect bites.
(II). Of late, the weather in the Kafue National Park is extremely hot. Please come prepared to protect yourself from the direct scorching savannah sunlight.
(iii). In case the Dundumwezi Road is not in good condition, we use the Choma to Namwala to Itezhi Tezhi route to reach the Kafue National Park.
