Itinerary
- Day 1
Bhubaneswar
You'll arrive at Bhubaneswar airport and get transferred to your hotel to settle in. This afternoon, head out to explore the city's temples, starting with Parasurameshwar and Mukteshwar, then moving on to Rajarani and Lingaraj (you can view the exteriors if you're not Hindu). After that, you'll check out the Khandgiri and Udayagiri Jain caves carved into the hillside, followed by Dhauli Rock Edicts where the rock faces are inscribed with ancient texts. By evening, stick around for the Dhauli light and sound show, which runs about 40 minutes and tells the area's history through projections on the rocks.

- Day 2
Bhubaneswar to Bhitarkanika
Head out early to Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary, roughly 3 hours from Bhubaneswar. You'll check into the forest resort and have lunch there. In the afternoon, explore the sanctuary's mangrove forests and tidal waterways where you might spot giant saltwater crocodiles, kingfishers, and other wildlife. A guide will take you on nature trails through the dense vegetation, and the best wildlife viewing usually happens during these cooler hours.

Bhitarkanika to Puri
Start early with a boat safari through Bhitarkanika's mangrove waterways, where you'll get close views of crocodiles and migratory birds in their natural habitat. The boat moves slowly so you can photograph and observe. After returning from the safari and grabbing lunch, drive to Puri (about 2 hours). On the way, stop at Ratnagiri, Udaigiri, and Lalitgiri to explore excavated Buddhist monasteries and structures dating back centuries. You'll arrive in Puri by late afternoon.

Puri
Spend the full day in Puri. Start with the Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO site about 35 kilometers away, featuring intricate stone carvings and a unique architectural design. Head to nearby Pipili to see artisans creating colorful applique work on fabric and umbrellas. Then visit Raghurajpur village where craftsmen practice traditional Odisha painting. Stop at Ramchandi temple and Chandrabhaga beach for some breathing room. Later, explore the Jagannath temple complex in Puri (non-Hindus can't enter the inner sanctum, but the outer areas are accessible). Use your remaining time relaxing on the beach or walking along the shore.

Chilika Lake
Take an excursion to Chilika Lake, India's largest coastal lagoon located about 2 hours from Puri. Get on a boat and cruise through the shallow waters, watching for over 160 species of migratory birds that come here seasonally. You'll pass through sections with different ecosystems and depths. Interact with local fishermen and communities to understand how they live off the lake and what the area means culturally. The boat ride usually takes 3 to 4 hours, and you'll return to Puri by evening.

Puri to Bhubaneswar
Have breakfast at your hotel, then pack up and head to Bhubaneswar airport for your flight out. It's about a 2-hour drive from Puri, so you'll want to leave early morning. This marks the end of your Odisha temple and mangrove forest expedition.
