Hanoi
The day starts with a cyclo ride through Hanoi's old quarter, passing by shops selling wooden handicrafts, fresh fruit juice, and traditional candy. Later you'll watch a water puppet show, a centuries-old art form that tells Vietnamese legends and folktales through performance on water.

Hanoi to Ninh Binh
You're heading south to Hoa Lu, the ancient Vietnamese capital surrounded by rice fields and karst mountains. There you'll walk through temples from the Dinh and Le dynasties. After lunch in Tam Coc, you'll get on a traditional bamboo boat down the Ngo Dong River, passing through three caves with stalactites and jungle scenery. The evening is yours to relax once you reach Ninh Binh.

Ninh Binh
Starting back in Tam Coc, you'll cycle through the countryside past farms and through Thung Nang valley, seeing local Buddhist pagodas at Bich Dong cave. Then there's a hands-on class making Vietnamese sweet potato chips at a local restaurant. By evening you're back at the hotel with free time to use the pool or spa, or wander around Ninh Binh on your own.

Ninh Binh to Hue
This morning you'll drive back to Hanoi and stop at KymViet, a local social enterprise where you'll meet the team and make your own stuffed animal. From there you'll head to the airport for a flight to Hue on the Perfume River. The evening is open to relax at your hotel or take a walk along the river to see some of the UNESCO sites you'll visit tomorrow.

Landmarks Perfume River - Day 6
Hue
You'll spend time in Hue's citadel, walking through palaces and ornate gardens while your guide shares stories about the royal families who lived here. Then comes the Forbidden Purple City, modeled after Beijing's version, where emperors once ruled. After lunch at a Buddhist nunnery in the countryside, you'll travel to Hoi An by crossing the scenic Hai Van Pass along the coast.

Hoi An
Hoi An awaits with its old town full of paper lanterns, temples, and tailor shops from the 15th to 19th centuries. You'll visit a tailor for a fitting on a custom-made shirt, then go to a nearby factory to see how it's actually produced. The whole town is a UNESCO World Heritage site so there's plenty to wander through on your own as well.

Hoi An
Start the morning heading back to the old town where local youth guides from the Oodles of Noodles program will lead you through a noodle-focused food tour. You'll sample different noodle varieties at the food market, then pick fresh ingredients together before cooking in their training kitchen. After you eat lunch, the afternoon takes you on a leisurely bike ride through the Hoi An countryside. From there, you'll float down to a nearby farming village in a traditional basket boat to wrap up the day.

You'll fly to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's largest city still commonly called Saigon by locals. A cyclo ride shows you French colonial buildings and monuments, then you'll head into a busy market where vendors are calling out, street food smells fill the air, and there's a jumble of goods to see.

Ho Chi Minh City
The Cu Chi Tunnels are next, an underground network that the Viet Cong built and used during the Vietnam War. These passages connected living areas with schools and hospitals, and included booby traps. You'll try cassava root, which fed soldiers for years, then have a traditional lunch by the river after touring the bunkers.

Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap
You're flying to Siem Reap in Cambodia to access Angkor's ruins. This evening you'll have dinner at New Hope Cambodia, a vocational training restaurant run by G Adventures that trains young adults in hospitality while funding a community school and health program.

Siem Reap
Exploring the Angkor temple complex means winding through the jungle past hidden passageways and crumbling courtyards where trees are taking over. Later you'll try acrobatics at a Phare workshop, a Cambodian circus that employs underprivileged youth. You'll practice tumbling, watch a performance, and celebrate at a farewell dinner tonight.
