Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha
Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport for the drive to Arusha. The journey gives you a chance to learn what's ahead during a briefing about the climb, then you'll have dinner and settle in at Corrido Hotel for the night.

- Day 2
Umbwe Gate to First Camp
After breakfast, the drive to Umbwe Gate takes you through villages where coffee and banana plantations dot the landscape. Once at the Parks Gate, you'll meet your guide and porters, sign in, then start hiking. The 5-hour trek moves through rainforest along a ridge between the Lonzo and Umbwe Rivers, with deep gorges and occasional views of Kilimanjaro rising in the distance.

Umbwe Ridge to Barranco Camp
You'll hike for 6 hours as the forest gradually opens up and becomes rockier, with moss-covered trees still visible around you. The narrow ridge offers views the whole way while Kilimanjaro gets closer and higher ahead. Terrain flattens out as you near Barranco Valley, then you descend to Barranco Camp below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall. The sunset from camp is memorable, and you'll sleep at 3,950m/12,960ft.

Barranco Camp to Arrow Glacier Camp
After breakfast, the hike toward Lava Tower crosses steep, rocky ground with Mt. Meru visible through the clouds. From Lava Tower, you'll head toward the Western Breach for a demanding climb to Arrow Glacier Camp at 4,800m/15,750ft. This is a tough day when altitude sickness can start showing up. Camp sits on rock and scree with extreme cold and only sparse views of the landscape.

Landmarks Lava Tower Mount Meru Western Breach - Day 5
Arrow Glacier Camp to Crater Camp
This is the hardest day of the climb. Starting from Arrow Glacier Camp, you'll scramble up steep scree and rocky terrain through the Western Breach to the crater floor at 5,700m/18,700ft, taking about 5 hours. After snowfall, the route gets icy and you might need ice axes or ski sticks. Reaching the crater rim, you'll see snow, glaciers, the Northern Ice Fields, and Furtwängler Glacier. Crater Camp at the crater rim becomes your camp for the night inside the volcano.

Crater Camp to Uhuru Peak to Millennium Camp
Tea and biscuits come around 4:00 AM before the 2-hour snow ascent to Uhuru Peak. Time at the summit is short because of extreme cold and exhaustion, but reaching it feels unforgettable. After descending to Barafu Camp for a quick rest (3 hours down), you'll continue through moorland and forest to Millennium Camp at 3,100m/10,170ft, taking 7 to 8 hours total. Dinner and water are included.

Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate to Arusha
Following a well-deserved breakfast, the final 5-hour walk (3 hours actual hiking) takes you to Mweka Gate through the park. You'll sign the register and get your summit certificate here, golden if you reached Uhuru Peak or green if you reached Stella Point. Walking through Mweka Village takes about an hour and the path is usually muddy. A hot lunch happens before heading back to Arusha to celebrate with a proper hot shower.
