  1. Day 1

    Ulaanbaatar

    Your guide and driver pick you up at your accommodation to start exploring Ulaanbaatar. You'll see Gandantegchilen Monastery with its 26-meter gilded Buddha statue, then head to the National Museum of Mongolia. After checking out the central square, you'll drive to Zaisan Memorial where you get panoramic views of the city.

  2. Day 2

    Gobi Desert

    The countryside tour starts in the Gobi Desert at Tsagaan Suvarga, known as the White Stupa. You'll hike through colorful, massive mud cliff formations that look like stupas, which makes for great photographs of this popular Gobi highlight.

  3. Day 3

    Gobi Gurban Saikhan National Park

    You'll explore Gobi Gurban Saikhan National Park, meaning Three Beautiful Mountains in the Gobi. Walking through Yoliin Am (Eagle Valley), you'll see a sheer rock canyon that gets no sunlight and holds ice until late June. The 2.5 to 3-hour hike gives you chances to spot golden eagles, shy wild sheep, and ibexes in their natural setting.

  4. Day 4

    Khongor Sand Dunes

    From there, it's on to Khongor home to the tallest sand dunes. You'll hike along the green river shore, climb one of the dunes, visit a nomad family, and ride two-humped camels. Try spreading sand northwards against the wind at the top to hear why locals call these the Singing Sand dunes.

  5. Day 5

    Flaming Cliffs

    Next you'll head to the Flaming Cliffs, where American explorer Roy Chapman Andrews discovered a dinosaur cemetery and the first dinosaur eggs ever found. You'll hike through the cliffs looking for dinosaur fossils and stop by Bayanzag, a Gobi tree grove named for its saxaul trees that only grow in Central Asia's Gobi.

  6. Day 6

    Ongi Monastery

    Driving through slate mountains and across the 80-kilometer Ongi steppes, you'll reach Ongi Monastery, one of Mongolia's seven largest. The site once had more than 30 temples on the Ongi River shores surrounded by Gobi Desert mountains. Though destroyed during the 1930s, you'll visit the new active temple, explore the ruins, climb a nearby mountain for bird's-eye views, and check out the ger museum.

  7. Day 7

    Kharkhorin and Erdenezuu Monastery

    Travel through the transition zone from Gobi desert to mountain steppes toward Kharkhorin, formerly the capital of Genghis Khan's Great Mongol Empire in the 13th century. You'll visit the ancient monastery Erdenezuu in the Orkhon River valley, see religious articles in the monastery museum, view its architecture, and visit the Kharakhorum Museum displaying remnants of the ancient city.

  8. Day 8

    Tsetserleg and Khorgo Terkhiin Tsagaan National Park

    Start with a driving tour of Tsetserleg town in Arkhangai province, stopping at the market. You'll meet a yak-herding nomadic family for an authentic Mongolian barbecue lunch and learn about traditional nomadic life. Later, drive through Arkhangai landscapes with a stop at Chuluut River canyon before reaching Khorgo Terkhiin Tsagaan National Park in the late afternoon.

    Khorgo Volcano and Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake

    Khorgo Terkhiin Tsagaan National Park protects spectacular mountain scenery and endangered species. In the afternoon, climb the extinct Khorgo Volcano (inactive for nearly 8,000 years) using stairs and trails, then walk along the volcano rim with great views of surrounding areas, a small village, and the clear waters of Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake. The lake formed when lava flows blocked water access to the Terkh River.

  10. Day 10

    Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake

    You'll drive along Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, surrounded by pastureland and summer camps for nomads. This is a scenic driving day before arriving at a ger camp, where you have a free afternoon to relax or try your favorite activities.

  11. Day 11

    Lake Khuvsgul

    The journey takes you to Lake Khuvsgul, the world's freshest water lake. This 136-kilometer-long, 38-kilometer-wide lake sits 1,600 meters above sea level in Siberian taiga forest surrounded by sheer rock mountains. On the way, you'll explore deer stones (ancient Bronze Age monuments) spread throughout Central Asia. After arriving in late afternoon, you'll enjoy evening horseback riding for 1-3 hours.

  12. Day 12

    Naadam Festival at Lake Khuvsgul

    You'll attend the opening ceremony of the local Naadam Festival starting between 10-11 AM near Hatgal on Lake Khuvsgul's western shore. Watch horse racing, wrestling, and archery, see Mongolians in traditional clothes on their finest horses, and try festival games yourself. Taste Huushuur, the festival's main dish. On the way back, visit the Tsaatan reindeer people living in the taiga forest depths where reindeer are their primary livelihood.

    Urantogoo Volcano

    You'll travel to Urantogoo volcano, which became extinct 800,000 years ago. The northern slope and crater are covered with trees and contain a small lake. After a challenging hike to the volcano top, you'll have great views from above.

  14. Day 14

    Amarbayasgalant Monastery

    Next stop is Amarbayasgalant Monastery, Mongolia's second largest, built in Chinese and Mongolian style between 1727 and 1736. You'll drive through Erdenet copper mine city and a central town of Bulgan province. In the afternoon, visit the monastery and see large Buddha statues on the hilltop.

    Return to Ulaanbaatar

    Your last day in the countryside. You'll leave the ger camp early to reach Ulaanbaatar before 12:30 PM. Complete your PCR test, check in at your hotel, and have a free afternoon.

    Departure

    It's time to head to the airport or railway station for your departure from Mongolia.

    The tour is a very good way to have an insight of this wonderful country. Guides and drivers are excellent and very caring. The only drawback is food: if you are vegetarian Mongolia is a very demanding country!
